I went to Kennedale today and I wanted to see if the current mods I have made a dent in track times from when I first went. When I first went, I had only the Cold Air Intake, and a single Flowmaster and I ran 10.1 @66 mph. The messed up thing is that I have added about 30 HP with my current new mods and I am running THE SAME times!!!!! AND WITH SLICKS ON!!!! I have no traction problems with the slicks and my 60' times are really close to 2.00.

When I get to around 60 MPH, it feels as though I have lost engine power. It still accelerates, but not nearly as strong as below 60MPH...This happened when it wasn't modded too. It pulls really strong up to 60mph...hell I was hanging with a rustang til I hit 60, then it feels like it kinda slumps. It really sucks cause I know I should be running high 9's...but alas, I am not...Can anyone tell me what the deal is? or what the problem might be?

Slumps at around 4400 in second gear, right? Sounds like you need either the 1.7s or a hotter cam, IMHO. You get the M1 installed yet?

Well, I'm sure that'll be resolved next time you see Bernd and Tom!

Kris I guarantee you its the true dual setup...you've lost some power opening it up that much w/o added power to push the air through. I noticed once I put the true duals on mine it lost a little power. I put the 2400 stall on to get ready for my heads and cam and that helped add a tad more power but I know the heads and cam work will pick it back up where it should be. If your gettin your M-1, heads, and SC soon don't worry U'll be kickin ass in no time. :)

I would say that your engine is sucking wind at
4400 too, for the 5.9 I would go with the RR's
at 1.7, if you are going to SC it then go with a
cam from KRC they have a wide range go to
thier web sit and checkem out. The increased
lift of the 1.7 's though will give you some
midrange back.

Well, I won't need the cam as of yet because of the stuff I already have waiting for install..

1.7 RR's
Supercharger
Ported and Polished 1.92 R/T heads
M1 4bbl intake with 2 bbl adapter
24# injectors
Torque convertor
Shift Kit

These are already bought, just not installed yet.

I was more suprised than anything else because I have a 26 hp gain and a 35 ft. lbs. of torque gain with my current mods... I would have figured a drop in times with that much of an increase, not the SAME times....

Are those dyno numbers? The manufacturer will claim hp numbers and it seems like you can just add them up.... 5 hp w/ no clutch fan + 20 hp K&N filter + 20 hp on new exhaust= 45 more horsepower, but we all know that the mods I listed don't make for 45 hp.

The other thing to remember is the weather. If it was February when you ran your fast times and then you ran again here in May, the truck will have slowerd down from heat, humidity, and barometric pressure being lower. There are lots of variables.....

That is dyno numbers,The actual rear wheel dyno numbers are 217 at the rear wheels, and 298 ft. lbs. of torque at the wheel. Figure 22% drivetrain loss and that equates to about 280 HP and 380 Torque. I know better than to just "add up" the hp numbers. I ran the truck in late March when the weather was somewhat cold, 50 or so degrees.but it was 60 degrees yesterday at the track...not hot at all....

no MIL's....I dunno wtf is up...at 60mph there is a slack in power. But if I am already going 50MPH and i mash the pedal, I get a good hard pull till the speed limiter kicks in....I am wondering is somehow the engine is getting starved of air when I am going at that speed. I have the 360 AIRINTAKEZ with the heat shield...I am wondering if the placement of the filter and heat shield may be causing some of the power loss. I will fiddle around with it tomorrow and see....

Hey Kris,,, isn't it more like 12-15% driveline pwr. loss? I dyno'd my truck a while back ('01 4.7 auto), and don't recall exactly,,,but just a shade over 200HP at the rear wheels. (only mod was catback exhaust).

Which put me closer to 14% drive loss. Only mod (performance) since was a 360airintakez,,feels like it pulls stronger.

I would think you're putting out gobs mo' power!

What do your track times come out to in the quarter mile?

Im kind of a neophyte to all of this so bare with me. Why does the engine seem to lose so much power through the drivetrain. I mean I know why, but why so much is what Im asking? 20% sounds like quite a bit to me.

Mostly, it's Torque Converter loss. It's a fluid coupling, and absorbs some horsepower.

Wow that's pretty slow for what you have done. Last Wednesday night my girlfriend ran a 10.22@68mph in her '99 318 Club Cab and it has an A500 , 3.55 open diff , a 'glass lid ,and the back seat is full of a speaker box and amps. The only thing I've done to it is a 3" intake tube with a K&N cone filter and I put 2 1/4 dual exhaust with glasspacks and no cats. It has a pretty bad intake leak right now and I have an M1 on order - it should be in on Wednesday or Thursday. I'm also going to put in a 180 T-stat and 3923's when I do the intake. There was an R/T club at the track and they were pretty inpressed with how it ran. She grudge raced a '02 R/T RC with an M1 , flashed computer , 24# injectors , 52mm(?) Holley throttle body and a Flowmaster 3" cat back and he ran a 10.18 to her 10.22. I figure with just fixing the leaking intake with the M1 it should run 9.80's pretty easy.

Am I going to lose that much power early in the power band when i add an intake and exhaust, i would've expected you guys to be running much faster than me?

Don't feel to bad, When I first ran my truck after getting a high flow cat and muffler and the rest being stock... I ran a 9.6 dont know how, cause all the other runs were high nines, if not going into the tens (poor traction) anyways, haven't taken mine to the track with the blower and all the stuff for it, but I would bet it aint a much better time. Then again, I'm having some tuning problems.
