Subject: Detonation??? IP: Logged
Message: What exactly is this and how do you know it's happening. I've got the idea that it's combustion of fuel due to overall heat in the chamber and not because of the spark plugs. Or otherwise it's "unauthorized fuel burn" in a wierd way. And help would be appreciated.

Message: I believe its fuel combusting before the pistons and valves are ready for it. Ie. timing issue. It’s caused by Dodge's crappy engine design. I’m battling this issue right now with my Dakota. You can tell its happening because your trunk will sound like there is a bunch or marbles rolling around in a coffee can inside your hood, or mildly like a diesel engine.

Message: So the sound would vary in volume with the engine speed? I think I'm having this problem now! This is great! I've found the problem. What can be done to stop it?

Message: HUH? Bill the Cat, what does that mean, I've been using 89 octane in my truck for over a year now and this is a summer problem at worst but does seem to appear sporatically year round once every week or so. I haven't really been paying attention though.
