Message: Okay:
I bought a used '01 Dakota Sport 3.9L Automatic Club Cab a couple of weeks ago. It has 26k miles, and was bone stock when I bought it. After driving it, I realized that I wanted to do more with it as I have done with every other car I have owned. Here is the list of things I have done so far:
1. MagnaFlow muffler installed on factory 2.5" exhaust.
2. Cold Air intake system -- removal of factory airbox, 3" exhaust piping bent to fit engine bay, high-heat painted with K&N closed-end 3" cone filter.
3. IAT sensor relocation from intake runner to intake piping (perfect fit and finish thanks to excellent directions found on SpeedTweaks site!).
Future plans include:
1. Removal of black plastic factory air-splitters located in front grille and replacement with metal mesh.
2. Removal of rubber protector over A/C lines by radiator assembly to maximize fresh air flow into engine bay on air filter side. (to be done after mesh to avoid debris bursting A/C lines)
3. Safari Bar with lights for front end protection and additional illumination.
4. Flometrics 48mm throttle body swap being considered.
I would really like to improve fuel mileage (avg. 17.5 mpg city/highway last 2 tanks), with performance being a "side effect". After all, with more power under the hood, the engine has to do less work to maintain the same driving habits. Any input would be helpful as long as you don't suggest a V8 swap.
If anyone wants pics of the mods I've done or help with doing them, just toss a message up and I'll get in touch.
Thanks in advance,
Mike T.

Message: Actually, I am going with a Flometrics 48mm billet TB. Cost is probably a bit higher, but they seem to have a well-received product and the cost isn't too much (with no core charge heehee). After that come the 3923's and the 180 t-stat.... was thinking of the 160 T-stat, but I don't need the engine running THAT cold without forced induction of sorts. I am also planning a barrier for the Air Filter to 'scoop' the fresh air in on the filter side once I get the mesh grille and remove the bulk of the A/C line cover.
On a side note, for looks, I am thinking of clear corner lamps and a simple 4-corner strobe for fun :D .
