Hey CW Bernd Cyberwolf and all you other mechanics....what is the final verdict on the 3rd cat.....I have the 4.7L 2001 can i take it out will I see gains......no strict testing here in caribbean sure needs to pass federal guidlines but not california for goodness sake......and how did all of yuo do it just cut the 3rd one out and weld up a straight pipe and and all step by steps with results welcomed......I am an Environmental Scientist for all of you "tree huggers" the 3rd cat will have little source emission effects.

If all you have to pass is a visual inspection then take it off and hollow it out. I think Matt Barret did that. If you have to pass a sniffer test I doubt it would.

CW how did you do it an extra 20 bucks always gets a sniffer test pass....how did you do yours did it give you gains cut out completely? straight pipe insert? is it worth it? what about warranty doesit void the whole power plant?

I just cut mine at the y-pipe and put all new with a flowmaster cat back off of my '97. Expect good results in sound and power. It will give you the ability to rev it to 5500 and make better power up there.

Do you have any numbers on the HP gained and does it void the power plant warranty?? I have the software flash and I can rev up and shift @ 5600 or so...the flash gave me less off the line but over 3000 it screams it also lifted the the rev/speed limiter...plus no more detonation

Well when I kill a cat the methode I use is determined by the amount of noise I want to make. I use a sling shot and a 3/8 dia steel ball straight to the head is usually the quietest, then a compound bow, high-powered pellet gun, .22 cal rifle, .223 rifle, then i go to a .270, and if I just don't care I use a 12 gage with a sabot slug in it.
