Ok so I bought my 99' dakota r/t in dec. It looked great. well today everything was revealed to me that I was suckered. One of the rims on the inside said service king... and upon getting it aligned after putting my new tires on it, they told me I couldn't do it due to frame damage. real nice, the jerk-off who sold it to me told me it had never been wrecked. Real nice of him to sucker a kid into buying a truck thats been wrecked when he knows I'm inexperienced on finding flaws showing damage. Im so mad right now. gonna go run this thing off a cliff and not look back... afraid I'm gonna have to sell it. And since I'm still belly up on the loan, it looks like Im not getting another Dakota. this really sucks.

Im prolly gonna be selling everything I can. Powerdyne, msd btm, gauges, triple gauge pod, 9 # pulley, hotchkis drop kit, k&n big air filter for blower, maybe the 24# injectors, boost blow-off valve from speedtweaks that hasn't been opened, the fuel pump and fmu, and anything else I can think of that I can pull off. This is really depressing. let me know if any of yall are interested.

That blows!!!! I'm sure you prolly did this, but Folks, you gotta do research b4 you buy. Carfax is worth the money. It should give you a record of any MAJOR damage history, any inconsistancies in mileage, etc. By the way, drtswinger....I learned this the hard way!!!

I bought it off a private seller. I do have full coverage. roll eh? haha. anyways, im not sure how much i'd sell it all for, but it wouldn't be to bad of a deal. So could I really go back to him and get my money back. because he clearly told me there was no major damage. I might buy another r/t but i would have to sell all the things I have extra to come out even so I could afford another one. I am still on the interest payments.

Carfax is not all its cracked up to be. I totalled a '97 Blazer (head on with a tree) and then searched for it on Carfax about a year and a half later. It said that there was no salvage title, no major damage, overall a clean bill of health. It was registered in Missouri with a clean title. My mom totalled a Caravan (broadside at about 50mph) and the same thing. Registered in New York with a clean title.

The vultures are swooping in! That sucks. Try taking it to a body shop to see how much it would cost to repair the frame. Maybe you could just sue him for the repair costs?

I agree with CW. Take it to a good body shop with a frame alignment machine, have them look at it and give you an estimate. Then approach the seller/previous owner with it, and tell him that you'd appreciate it if he'd agree to reimburse you for the cost to repair the frame damage that he conveniently forgot to tell you about.
If he doesn't, speak to an attorney.

I got into a 40mph head on collision with my '97. The left frame rail to the brunt of the hit. After they aligned the frame again it was as good as new drove just as good if not better than before.

About how much does a repair cost? maybe I would look into that since my truck is already so far along. Would that really hold up in court? that could be an option since I sorta remember where he lives. Im sure the bank has his address too. anyways, Im tired, goin to bed.

Don't know if he wrote "as is" on the sales recipt or not but that could make a big difference, even if he told you it was never in an accident usually by writing "as is" on the bill of sale you would be screwed, I'm not 100% sure of this so I'd definetly investigate it further. Contact a lawyer most have free consultations. You'll probably need an estimate or statement from a few shops or better yet the dealer saying that the truck was in a wreck and was repaired before you could even prove it was wrecked. I agree with the other post, first I'd talk to a lawyer don't bother with the dirt bag seller, yet... than get an estimate on straightening the frame by a reputable shop ask around and get refrences from others, next ask the lawyer what he thinks about presenting the seller with the option of paying for any repairs or taking the truck back. If the seller swears their was never an accident with the truck than that's basically false advertising. Good luck don't give up talk to a lawyer even if you don't sue him the thought that you have a lawyer looking into it may scare the seller enough to get what you can out of him

I know in California that if the dealer doesnt inform the purchaser of vehicle damage i.e tie down, accident and so forth that you can sue them or have them buy back your vehicle i would look into that or you may just look into them fixing your truck. Trust me if we can do it for My buddies racecar in just a few hours a night then they should be able to fix your truck. Id look into a different alignment shop or go to a very good body shop they should be able to fix your TRUCK

Im gonna go get a quote or two today. If they say the damage is bad and they are not able to make it like new again, then there is gonna be hell to pay to the guy who sold me the truck. If they can, I will simple ask him to either pay in full, or at least half. if he refuses, I will try to take legal action... making selling my truck and everything on it the last option.

Frames are not that expensive you can get the whole frame new for $500-$600 cost. A dealer will prob. want $1000-$1200. I am with CW a good frame shop can repair most damage. My friend straitend out the fram on a Toyota with an actylen torch and proto-ram. We kept measure and moveing metal. Any area that where to badly damaged we reinforced with fresh metal. It turned out well. We aligned the front wheels and check thrust at rear axle and it was perfect. We repainted everything and he continued to drive it. The point is that it should be repairable or replaceable.
