Subject: Heat-soaked IP: Logged
Message: The truck is a 1997 ,SB , SC ,5.2 , auto , 3.55 LSD with 26" tall tires . I have alot of bolt on mods.K&N gen II with 9" S&B filter,JBA headers,Dyno Max Ultra-flo, ASP undedrive ,ported 50mm TB ,180 stat , MSD coil & wires,Trans-go shift kit,Black Magic fan, Mopar PCM ,IAT adjuster ,....,I run low 14's if it is cool out or I keep the underhood temps down (ran a 13.92 on the G-Tech at 20deg outside temp) .On a 90 deg day with a long stage I run mid 15's.I have cut out the flap next to the rad & bent the K&N heat shield to pull in more cold air and that helped ,low 15's .My water temp stays down at 190 but the power goes away when it gets hot.Would the M1 help this alot? or should I try a 160 stat? P.S. I plan on doing the M1 this summer anyhow.

Message: Did you try removing the Radiator support passenger-side flap yet?
Also, how about constructing a "chill box" around the intake tube, and filling it with ice water?
I'm experimenting with this idea right now, on my '99 5.2.
4.7s have that nice plastic intake manifold, and they don't seem to suffer from the "heat sink" effect like the 5.2s and 5.9s do. Damn it! : )

Message: have you thought about water injection?
its been used for years, mainly to reduce detonation on turbo cars/trucks and on old muscle cars with higher compression, but will greatly reduce the intake charge temperature . they claim about 15% more power and mileage because your timimg stays advanced much longer due to lower cumbustion temps.
check out this web site . just an idea. havent tried it , but thinking about it , makes alot of sense!!

Message: Aaro, just flushed the cooling system and popped in a 180 a couple of weeks ago. I'll stick to a 180 for a good reason: I believe that you should try to keep your oil temp over 210 degrees, to ensure that you heat it enough to get all the condensation out of it. Going to a 160 tstat my not allow the oil to reach that temp under a light load.
Just my 2 cents.

Message: One more thing...just read a response to another post....Tom Slick says going to a 160 will trigger a MIL from the ECM.

Message: Just found part of the problem ,the mopar pcm is making it slower ? don't know if that has to do with the 5200 rpm shift point or the fact that the idle and no load 3000 rpm spark advance are lower with the mopar pcm.A test back to stock pcm and I could feel that it was faster,the g-tech proved this.
