Subject: Z-Tube or 360AirIntakez for 4.7 IP: Logged
Message: Which intake is better quality/performance for a 4.7? I know that the 360AirIntakez is a little cheaper, but does the Z-Tube work any better? What's everyone's opinion.

Message: I have the 360 intake, and love it.
There have been a number of people asking the difference in quality/performance.
Think about it..they are both nothing more than metal pipe! The 360 is just two pieces,,,which makes it easier to manuever, clean, etc..... However, I'm sure there are some people who argue that this small seam where pipe meets up would cause turbulance, and therefore less pwr. Which at some incredibly small degree is true,,,but wouldn't be detectable.
I would go w/the 360intake. Mainly for the price,,,after all,,,they are pretty much the same thing.

Message: I should be able to give a report on the Ztube in a couple of days. I just ordered one with the enclosed filter canister and it should arrive Thursday or Friday. Pricey, but here's why I ordered it.
Before I did the body lift, I used the airaid with the stock airhat. Lifting the body (and hence the air filter box but NOT the engine) created a big kink in the stock flex hose. So I replaced the stock airhat with a homebrew system, still using the airaid. Don't really care for how that looks under the hood. And in hot weather (plenty of that in Tampa) my truck would run sluggish with the airaid, I think because it was sucking hot underhood air. And I was concerned about accidentaly soaking the filter with muddy water during one of Tampa's almost daily thunderstorms that flood just about every street I drive on. Plus I've heard stories about the homebrew systems warping with the underhood heat, although I haven't seen that yet on mine.
The Z tube was the only aftermarket setup for 4.7s that had an enclosed filter. Plus it's the only one that looks like it will fit (given my body lift that's a concern), but I'll have to wait and see on that. I'll post my thoughts on it once I've got it installed and have driven it around a bit.

Message: The cannister for the 4.7 is not a good idea, what size filter did you get Dan? I had the z-tube with the 9 inch pro-flow and there is not enough space for a cannister to go around the filter,I personally saw no gains with it just more noise

Message: I ordered it with the 7 inch filter. If it doesn't fit right, I can return it within 30 days for a full refund.
And I'm not really getting it for performance. I had to go with an aftermarket setup of some sort because of the kink in the stock flex hose caused by the body lift. The Z tube is the only one available that has an enclosed filter. I wanted that because of the underhood heat issue and because of concerns about sucking water in through an open filter...living in Tampa I drive through lots of standing water fairly frequently because of the almost daily summertime rain.
And again, if it doesn't work or fit, it will get returned.

Message: I just switched from airraid quick fit to z-tube and I like it's much better. Looks, sound and even the butt dyno tells me a little different on high end acceleration. I think the main key was getting rid of the airhat resonator!
