Subject: R/T Exhaust Mod IP: Logged
Message: Hello,
I have a `99 Dak R/T CC. So far I have a 180 degree thermostat, Jet Stage II, K&N cold air, Headman Ceramic coated headers, custom y-pipe, high-flow 3" cat, and a Series-40 Delta 3"/3" Flowmaster.
Any suggestions on what the best exhaust configuration may be? I am extremely disappointed w/ the sound and tone of the exhaust. Even under throttle. I know my ride can sound "a lot" better than what it does now.
I have thought about running true duals from each header collecter, dual cats, and dual Series-40 2.25"/2.25" Flowmasters. Anyone have an idea of what that would sound like? Have a better idea?
Does anyone see a problem with doing that? Any input is much appreciated.
My near furture mods include the M1 intake and 1.7 RR's.
Thanks in advance!
Jeremy

Message: What is it about the sound that you don't like?? Can't offer suggestions if we don't know what you are looking for sound wise. Personally, I woudl say ditch the Flowmaster for a Spintech.

Message: Sorry... I'm looking for some something that has a lot of "throat" under throttle. Kinda like the Mustang's do.. you know.. how they sound aggressive... even in the distance...
Spintech?
Better info now? Sorry....

Message: Okay, that helps. Spintech seems to be the prefered muffler on the Dak R/T's now. www.spintechmufflers.com If you want to hear some sound clips of different exhaust set ups, go to http://blackdakrt.com/mpegs.html There is almost every set up on there. From Flowmaster to dynomax to Spintech to Gibson, and even a Borla. I have the Spintech on mine. It is a chambered muffler like the Flowmaster, but has much better fow and a unique sound. Can get a little raspy on deaccell, but not as bad as Flowmaster. ALso it has more of a growl to it. Just personal preference though. I recomend checking out the mpegs though so you can really get a feel for them and hear what each will be like.

Message: The popular exhaust for the R/t's is PPH headers, high-flow or no cats, spintech 5441 muffler and single 3" pipe all the way. This system has been proven to be one of the fastest setups for our trucks by several guys on the delphi forum.

Message: I went and listened to some of those mpeg's you told me to check out HSKR.... but what I heard almost reminded me of glasspacks. The rasping noise made following the decel isn't what I'm looking for.
Does anyone know what the Mustang ppl run for exhaust?
BTW, HSKR... some of those mpeg's were pretty good... ;)
Cut outs? I think not. I don't have the truck for a dragster. I really don't want to burn out my exhaust valves due to lack of back pressure either. This is my daily driver......

Message: So you know I own both a 2002 Dodge Dakota R/T and a 98 Ford Mustang GT. I've got JBA Headers, Bassani X-Pipe, and Magnaflow magnapacks on my Mustang. (I don't have any mpeg's) But, from what I hear most of the SN95 stangs are going to Magnaflow and staying away from flowmaster. Right now I am working on a setup to have true dual exhaust going through a dual in/out carsound cat into a custom x-pipe or h-pipe then two seperate Magnaflow magnapack mufflers on the R/T. On my stang it has the deep roar your looking for and a distinctive sound from far away. People know I'm comming lets put it that way. Go check out www.magnaflow.com they may have what your looking for.

Message: The Magnaflow's in my mustang are louder but they don't have the annoying drone that the flowmasters do. Or atleast as much. I'm still working on a dual setup for my dak, hopefully as long as the money keeps comming in i'll have it done sometime this summer, along with a few other things. Give me a little bit and i'll post a link for a mustang gt with the magnaflows.
