i have an open diff in my 2002 4.7 cc 4x2. and yesterday when i put the hammer down i let 2 tire patches on a dry concrete road. why would it do that? it always left 1 before.

The concrete sticks to the tires more than asphalt. Maybe you had just enough traction to keep both wheels engaged?

There's any number of reasons that could cause both wheels to spin, on an open diff.

A chick I was going out with back in the 70's (showin' my age here!), had a Challenger SE with a 318, 904 tranny, and an open diff. Every once in a while, I could get it to leave a couple of strips, instead of one.

It was a little easier to drive on slippery roads then the car I had at the time (Charger RT with 4 spd and 8 3/4" SureGrip).
