Subject: 1.7 Rockers & 50mm TB IP: Logged
Message: I have a '99 CC auto with a 5.2, and mild mods (catback and Airaid).
I'm considering going to a set of 1.7 Crowers.
I also plan on getting a 50mm Flowmetrics TB.
My question is, would the stock manifold still perform at 4500-5000 rpm?

the stock manifold NEVER performed at thoes rpm's it starts droping off at about 4300. the 1.7's will wake up the engine from 3000 to 5200, and if you get a M-1, it will pull real hard to 6000 (if you have the pcm to remove the limiter)
i would save $$$ on the TB and get the M-1 first

Message: Hey Kota on 20's
What was the install time for your 1.7RR's?
I have been told 2-3 for the M1 and I want to get a quote on the roller rockers too. Don't want to get ripped off. Probably will get both mods at once and try to save some $ on labor!!!

Message: well i took my time and double checked everything as i went along and it took about 5 hours. if i did it again, i could probably do it in 3.
if you are going to pay for the installs, i doubt if they will give you a break on the price because you dont have to take apart one to get to the other. for example, if you wanted a limited slip and gears, you will get free labor on the LSD because everything is already torn apart.
this is not the case with these two parts.
i STRONGLY suggest you do the labor your self, expecially the manifold. even tho it dosent look like it, it is REALLY easy to do.

Message: With my mods the stock intake pulled to 4900-5000rpm(horse power peak) on a Dynojet. It was done by 5200.
With the M1 at the track my engine pulls to 6000rpm no problem.
I will dyno again when my adjustable, return fuel system is in place so I can adjust the fuel pressure for peak performance.

Message: TWO areas I know quite well.
The 1.7 Crower RR will work fine with stock intake manifold... HP on a 5.2L peak at approx 4400 rpm, on a 5.9L 4600 rpm--- The curve from off peak, to peak, to off peak is sharper with the 1.7s (more lift)-- The RPM peak is roughly the same as with stock (but Higher).
On a stock 5.9L (204 & 268) Added Positive Perf. Headers and Crower 1.7s= 227 & 320-- F&B 50mm TB improved throttle response, and torque #'s below 3000 rpm-- above 3000 rpm the rpm curve was similar to stock, but less jagged (more efficient, less turbulant flow). Fast forward-- Running PP headers, F&B 50mm, Crower 1.7s, 3" header back (3" into stock cat, 3" out) to flowmaster 40 series 2 chamber, to 2-2.5" exits-- and K&N Gen II- 235 hp & 328 torque-- changed to 52mm, ran a 240 hp & 345 torque... Installed Moapr 4bbl M1-- 256 hp & 317 torque (HP peak moved from 4600 rpm to 5200 rpm, torque, though less, moved up the scale approx. 500 rpm, and did not fall off as rapid... same for the hp).
I am trying a custom grind Crower cam within the next month and will post numbers then (possibly with ported stock heads, with stock valves).
The M1 intake install-- 3-4 hours, and about the same with the 1.7s. Both are fairly easy to do-- it looks like a big job, but it really isn't (doing the cam and heads will be!). Checkout my site www.socaldakota.com I sell both the Crower and F&B TBs... (If you can find a lower price-- go for it!)
