I am going to install my M1 this weekend. Is there anything special I should look out for? Any problems that anyone has come across? Any help is appreciated.

they are very much straight foward to install. it took about 4 hours to get mine installed. nothing you really need to look out for. read your directions before you start and take your time. make sure you retorque the bolts after about a hundred mile or so. i have had to retorque mine twice now. thinking about putting on thread lock next time.

On the M1 Installation, do NOT reuse the factory bolts. They are "Torque to Yield" and do not torque down properly on the second time - throw them away as you take them out. Grab the Mopar intake manifold gasket set as it comes with new bolts and rubber seals. The FelPro seals are cork and don't have the dowl pins in them to prevent them from slipping out upon installation.

Eazy: Make sure you have the installation kit as well. It's got parts in it you'll need. Also, lay a bead across the back and front of the block where the rubber seals go (and don't forget to clean out the dowl-pin holes for them). They are notorious for slipping out on reinstallation and will cause a nasty oil leak from the rear of the manifold if not sealed properly. On the tightening portion of the manifold, run the bolts down until they butt up on the manifold. Then TQ them down to 12 ft.lbs. and recheck them three times. There's no need to retorque them every 100 miles. If you need to retorque them, something else is wrong.

Install a 180 degree t'stat, flush the coolant (might as well since you'll loose quite a bit) and change the oil after you're all done. Also cover the lifter valley with a towel while you clean up the old gaskets from the heads and front/rear of the block.

just bringing this post back to try and get a reply from bernd on my last post. you had said to eazy to recheck them 3 times when torqueing them down. could that be my problem. i only torqued them down once in the order it said to. should you put thread lock on the bolts?

No thread-lock required and only torquing them down once may very well be the problem. You need to recheck at least three times to verify that the proper TQ is applied. The gaskets "crush" the first run and are good to go on the second round. Third check is to verify that it all went down properly.

However, you do need to replace the intake manifold bolts everytime you use them. (Unless you're running aftermarket bolts.) They are "throw-away" bolts...new ones come in the Mopar Intake Manifold Gasket kit.

Hey Kota, How is the performance at lower RPMs with the 5.2 and the M1. Did you lose torque under 2500rmp?

I tow a rather heavy boat and appreciate the torque at low rpm. Should I be worried about it or is it unnoticable?

with the M-1, it performs like stock, or maby with a little more power at low rpm's. if you relocate the vacuume hose going from the map sensor to the throttle body to one of the ports in the manifold, it will give you a little better throttle responce.
