Has anyone ever put some thought into this?
Cause from what i know the supercharger is
belt driven forced air induction. What
if you could power a blower/supercharger like
using electric power instead of the engine it self.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one thinking about this. My plan would be to use a electric servo motor to spool a turbo. You wouldn't be able to produce a ton of boost but it would probably push 6lbs or so. You know just enough to possibly creep down into the 13's. I think it could work.

The biggest downside to an electric supercharger would be the need for a HUGE alternator, pretty powerful and fast motor, and it would result in a large amount of low end power and no gain, and possibly a loss on the top end (since the air that the blower is trying to move is a fixed quantity and doesn't scale w/ RPM)

I think someone does make an electric supercharger but I've never seen it in use.

I pretty sure Garret is working on a electric assisted turbo. I think I read that in some mag. They wanted to make a turbo with no lag. In any case they are having reliability issues with it.

Reality is that overall unless your gonna make it a pure electric forced induction system then there is no point. Basically a turbo with no lag is a turbo with a specail hose that feeds a small amount of fuel to the turbo just before the exhaust hits the turbo, with all the heat and compression the turbo makes cause the fuel to ignight and thus removes the lag buy spinning the turbo faster. I believe indy cars use this setup in qualifing runs.

On the other hand a pure supercharge wouldn't be such a bad thing but the electric motor would have to spin or be geared up to 40,000 rpms or so. and the power drain would be huge. This can become by a good fuel cell and an amount of batteries and a larger alternator.

Thinking about it a little more one could take a small goped motor or maybe a rc motor with the right gears could work. Connect two gears or just one even that scale it up to the required rpms and well you should be golden only draw back is preventing a too lean situation. Perhaps a blow-off valve that watched the tps readings and when your off the throttle it lets the boost go free. Now the motor can be started by a separte switch inside the cab thus allowing you to save a little money on the fuel costs or go for all out performance.

No joke every turbo system has to have a waste gaste so you don't over boost your system. That's how you control the boost, you open the waste gate more. Every turbo pretty much has lag. The exhaust isn't pushing enough air to give you maximum boost off the line. Besides lag on a v8 will be minimal if you have both exhaust manifold's hooked up to it.

Well you can use super flywheels. These spin in excess of 200,000 rpm. They are spooled up buy super conduting motor that is floating on magnetic field. They spool these up over night and then you just drive the car the next day. The flywheels stored energy is all that powers the car. This same technology could be applied to a super charger but heat is an enemy of super conductivity so I would not use it with a turbo charger. You can reduce lag buy useing variable inlet venturi. You can also control the throtel electronicly with each shift. Some company is also useing a belt and clutch on their turbo charger so you can have boost right away and then as thermal effeicency come up it works like a turbo again. This eleminate lag!
