Subject: 160 vs 180 thermostat? IP: Logged
Message: I've heard a 180 degree thermostat is benefitial to the daks performance. Now would a 160 degree be better? truckperformance.com has the 160, but could this hurt the performance?

Message: The 160 can run the engine way cooler than intended and cause the PCM to set trouble codes, you should stick with the 180 minimum.

Message: I know with a 4.7 and a 160 T-Stat you will get a MIL for engine too coold for too long.
I had a 180 T-Stat that also tripped a MIL, it was opening before 178 degrees, a MIL will trip when this happens (looks for 178 degrees after 10 minutes of run time)

Message: The only thing it will do is sludge up the engine. If you could get more power with no bad effects just by changing the thermostat Dodge would have already done it. The only reason you need a stat like that is if you have other mods causing the engine to run extremely hot and you want to get the stat open as fast as possible.
