Message: Bad wheel bearings sound a lot like dragging brakes, so a little more trouble shooting may be in order. The rear bearings on a car that I just bought were so bad that the brake drums were getting too hot to touch. Pinion bearings are bad as well, looks like a whole new axle is in the works for me.

Message: Don't be surprised by the brakes...everyone experiences it w/ the newer Dakotas. Apparently its an ongoing deal that DC fails to recall. Eventually you'll have warped rotors, its just a matter of time...no matter how many times you turn em.

Message: MikeD, you really hit that puppy on the head!
I think all of the Dakota & Durango groups/forums/clubs have VOLUMES of negative feedback on our stock brake setups...especially from those of us that have heavy feet.
One alternative that has thus far gotten rave reviews is replacing the stock rotors with PowerSlot rotors (check the Group Buy forum) and replacing the stock pads with Raybestos Quiet Stop pads.
I went this route, and can say that this combination improved my braking distance, and greatly diminished brake fade, noise, dust, and the pulsing I felt through the brake pedal. Bottom line is that I went out on a limb, dropped about $230 in parts, and have been happy with the results.
