Subject: Can't Wait 318 to 360 Swap IP: Logged
Message: Very excited!! My new 360 just came in, and my M1 will be here Wed.
Blew up my 318 a few weeks ago, and the new 360 is going in this Thursday.
Can't wait to feel the extra torque.
As far as I know, the only differences are the Torque converter, Harmonic Balancer, and PCM.
Anything different that you guys know about that I may be missing. I want it to go as smoothly as possible.
Also, any idea of HP and torque with the following mods: Mopar perf. PCM, M1 intake,24# Matched injectors, shortie headers, true duals(no cats), fastman TB(50MM), dual cold air w/ K&N, Accel ign, 3932's, Taylor wires, IAT Adjustor, 180 Deg thermostat, and the whistling, no power adding piece-o sh%t Helix power spacer(paid for, so it's going back on).
Thanks for the help
Wayne

Message: Georgia, and you definately do not want this engine. Would have to be completely rebuilt, from the heads to the crank. #2 rod broke in half and sent the piston into the valves. Plus, the core charge is $450.

Message: Check out this web site. It will give you a full understanding. The M1 is the intake manifold that your TB fits on. This is a High performance 2BBL intake. I have heard from 25 to 40 HP.

Message: Well, I'm looking for a 318 magnum block that I can bore .030 over. I'm trying to build a fresh motor for my truck. A stroker with forged crank, rods, and piston. low compression for my T-trim. The stock bottom end is holding up so far. but I have no clue for how long.

Message: Hey Sleeper318, I'm here in Lafayette. The best advice I can give is to check the bone yards. A NEW short block is only like 1200-1400 so If you just need the block w/o the crank and piston you can probably get one for under $750. I know, a lot to spend, but then you wouldn't have to pay for machining and magnafluxing and all.
Hold onto my email address and give me a shout when you want to tear into it. I'll gladly drive your way to turn some wrenches on a fellow 318!

Message: the 318 would be a better engine for racing. because of its shorter stroke it rev's faster, and potentally higher. too bad MP didnt make a 340 magnum, with a bigger bore than a 360, and the stroke of the 318 it truely one of the bad a$$ engine

Message: Good point, I have noticed that on desktop dyno that the 318 when built for performance out performs the 360 when it comes to horsepower, but I have a Ram and the torque is what I need with this 5000 pound beast to get it rolling.
Never had a mopar stoker, But I had a Ford 1979 F100 that I put a 351W in and had it stroked to a 398. It was a mean SOB and I do miss the power. It had an AOD and would burn 1st as long as you wanted without powerbreaking, and burn 2nd about 30 ft.
Good luck, and I hope IT SMOKES!!!

Message: I agree. Seems alot of guys are going with the 408. The 318/340 blocks could be "sleepers"
How about a 386? Will post how it turns out.
Firing the beast this weekend.

Message: Yes, this is what Lynda and I call "BigBird" and we are from Houston. I never want to follow the crowd so....... gonna try a 386, S/Ced and hope we won't need the NOS. We started out with a
318/340 R3 block. "IF" we need NOS the R3 4 blt. mains should carry about a 300 shot without problems.

Message: Mopar Performance is selling a repro/improved 340 block it is a new casting and can apearently be bored out to 4.1" safely. Put the 318 stroke crank in that and then the new Magnum R/T "Big valve" heads add an EFI M1.... voila! Modern high winding 340 for your dak. I wish I had the dough this is what I'd try building.
