 Subject: low fuel light capacity

Hello just curious any one run their truck to the limit with the low fuel light on? I know it's bad to run that low but it happens sometimes and I don't want to run out in the middle of nowhere, I'm sure different models ( engine, trans, gears,etc.) will make a difference in the # of miles I'm just looking for an idea. My dakota 01 CC IB 4x4 4.7 auto 3.55, Thanks

I run my truck until the light comes on just about every time. I always reset the trip odometer and the overhead computer and keep an eye on the guage. I have only run out of gas once (in 1992).

Mine has about 5 gallons left when the light comes on, but the only way for you to know for sure is to fill your tank as soon as the light comes on, and subtract the amount you put in from tank capacity.

That's how I know when I need to fill up. My gas guage is on crack and just bobbles around like A drunk monkey. I can usually get right at 300 miles before the light comes on, and I will fill it up with 18 gallons of gas.

My fuel light comes on at the 1/8th mark. I ran it extremely low one day ( had no choice), with the needle at the E (even with the last mark)then put another 50 miles on it, then put 20 gallons in it. It's a 22 gallon tank.

300 mile at the light BULL CRAP!!!!! I,m lucky to 250 with a 4.7 auto 3.55,s 4by on flat ground. I wish i could be so lucky to drive down hill both directions!

Actually, I get about 22 hwy only,
18+ mpg mixed and pulling my catamaran sailboat about 100 miles of the tank also. On this tank I got 370miles, in 20.2 gallons. I drive with a heavy foot sometiomes also, why have the accel. if you're not going to use it?

Gotta be careful running it so low. I know my S-10 ran out while there were still 1.5 gal in the friggin tank! THEY use it to cool the fuel pump, what BS!!!! BMac, I gotta try what you did, wow did you take a chance!!

Mine shows 255 miles to go after fill up and 50 to go when light comes on

The fuel light comes on with 7 gallons left. The tank is 22 gallons so you have only use 15 gallons. I Have driven about 100 miles with my light on and still only put in like 20 1/2 gallons. So don't worry about the gas light to much. I wish our trucks had the second warning light like my girlfriends neon. When you are down to your last half a gallon the light starts flashing. I think 8 gallons is a little early for the light to come on.

ran my 00 QC 4.7 out off gas once, says its a 24 gallon tank, when i filled her up i put in over 23.5 gallons. When MY low fuel light comes on i have 4 gallons left.

Ok so my light came on yesterday I filled it up it took 16.1 gallons, capacity is 22, I drove 9-10 miles from when light came on to when it was filled so I'd say around 5-6 gallons were left. Thanks for all the responses, Oh I also get around 250 miles before the light comes on I'm averaging 15 MPG 01 4x4 4.7 auto 3.55 gears that's a 36 mile trip one way to work at a steady 80 MPH sometimes as much as 95MPH, on a daily basis.
