Subject: 4.7l Exhaust IP: Logged
Message: I am looking into replacing the stock muffler on my 4.7L with a Dynomax super turbo.
I'm looking for a performance increase from this change.
However, I have read in a few posts that the stock muffler on the 4.7L flows very well, and that changing to a performance muffler shows almost no benefit.
Anyone have any information on this ?

Message: most people are doing it for the sound. you might get a little improvement with the correct combination.

Message: The cat back kit flowmaster sells using the 50 series suv muffler single exit in 3" gives the 4.7 a slightly deeper tone at idle but it's not overly loud at all. It's hard to tell ( at least on my truck) how the exhaust sounds at speed cause the air intake drowns it out. Personally I'm changing the 50 series with either a 40 or 40 delta flow as the 50 suv is too quiet.

Message: Go to:
http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/web10/productsf5.html
They have wav files for every muffler listed.
Also note they claim (via tech line), the longer and wider the case of the muffler, the better flow or more HP/TQ gains one muffler may give over another.
Switching from a SUV 50 Series to the 40 Series will give you a deeper exhaust note but you may lose some HP/TQ.

Message: I recently had a 50 flowmaster 1 in 2 out installed on my 00 4.7 and my 0-60 time went down by .8 seconds,a noticable decline in low end grunt.Gonna get a ztube soon, hopefully this will help solve this problem. 2.5" out to stock location, sound is great but performance suffered
