Message: I've seen a cloth full of threads on the M1 intake. What's the real skinny on these? An attempt to contact Bernd for info failed. So,: What is the good, bad and ugly???
Thanks for the info,...D

Message: I just had my M1 installed.
The M1 is for the Magnum 5.2/5.9L engines. It is a one piece intake manifold vs. the stock which is two piece (manifold, plenum pan).
One great advantage the M1 has is that it is one piece, no plenum pan gasket to worry about thus no plenum pan gasket that will fail on you.
During normal day to day driving, for example crawling along in traffic or the 10 km/h crawl, you won't notice any difference. If you merge into traffic or pass someone on a single lane highway, the M1 affords you much more power than the stock. The power is very noticable.
I can't think of anything bad to point out about the M1, except perhaps the cost (& labour if you don't install the part yourself).
Try contacting Randy of World Wide Performance Parts (www.worldwideperformanceparts.com). The package he and Bernd is offering sells for $375.00 US shipped, and includes the install kit + gaskets from the manifold to the heads. You still have to get the TB and t-stat gaskets though.

Message: yes, the m1 is a very worthy investment. it and the mopar pcm really compliment each other. the mopar pcm moves your rev limit up where the m1 can really use it compared to the stocker

Message: Thanks for the input! I've got a 5.9 and am reviewing options to improve performance. I've spoken with MOPAR concerning the upgraded chip but am put off by the near $500 price tag as well as the need to use premium fuel. [One of the reasons I got rid of a '76 XJS jag with a 425 hp 383 Chev. stroker I owned was the fuel cost]. I can justify the cost of an M1 if it will perform as advertised as that is a one-time cost.
Curiosity: as I've only come across the M1 information on this site [I don't get out much!, Is there an advertised hp/tq number?]. Thanks!!

Message: I don't have exact number on hp/tq, but I've heard 20 rwhp being bounced around. I am unsure as to whether that number is coupled with other mods or just the M1 itself.
As a suggestion, you could look into the M1 first, then look into the PCM afterwards.

Message: I gained 20 peak hp with the 2bbl M1 on my truck, but that isn't the whole story. It gets better!!! At 5000RPM I had a 45hp increase over the beer barrel, and 40ft/lbs difference in torque. At 5500RPM the difference was 50hp, and 45ft/lb in favor of the M1. The numbers between stock and M1 were pretty even up to around 3900-4000RPM where the M1 kept climbing and the beer barrel started to flatten out. Also the beer barrel starts dropping off around 4600RPM where as the M1 dosn't start droping off till after 5000RPM
