 Subject: rebuild 318 from heads up...

I've searched and searched but cant find any info on rebuilding my 318 from the heads up. Its in a 97 reg. cab 5 speed dak. I have a couple concerns. I know the engine doesnt need it, (106,000 miles, valves clatter a little and it just doesnt feel as peppy as it used to) but I want it to haul ass. (ie. ported heads, rockers, race intake, performance TB, cold air intake, headers, chip, hi power ignition, thermo and all that stuff) Now, my question is, can i do all that and get away with not doing anything to the block? cause i dont want to have to pull the engine! And I'd like the experience. If any one can kinda help me out or kinda talk me out of spending 3 or 4 grand, that would be great! thanks alot
