Message: The primary job of headers is to extract as much exhaust and heat as possible, AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, and send it down into the muffler and out the tailpipe. They do a much more efficient job at getting rid of exhaust from the engine than the stock manifolds. All this means is more heat will be generated, and that includes inside your engine compartment. Not much to worry about though. Stay away from header wraps. Powder coating extends the life of the headers and help the flow of the exhaust, but I'm not sure if it reduces any heat. But I could be wrong on that.

Message: Extracting as much heat as possible is NOT the primary job of the header. Using header wraps to keep the heat in can make the headers work better - hotter gasses flow faster increasing the scavenging effect. Unfortunately they can also trap moisture, leading to rust. The best coatings can help a little to keep the heat in the pipe.

Message: Yes the header wraps will improve the header performance, but they will likely wear out the headers rather quickly, which we all know is extremely expensive, and the reason why I discouraged him from using them.
Its usually racing teams that use header wraps, as they dont mind replacing headers. The average daily driver will.
