Subject: M1 vs Ported Beer Barrel IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know if purchasing a M1 intake will yield better results than a beer barrel with the following modifications: filled, port matched, trimmed runners, removed egr passage, polished runners.
These modifications would cost me virtually nothing to do and I'm wondering if the gains from the M1 will outperform the modified stock intake.

Message: I have the beer keg manifold with everything you done to it. cut runners, ported, polished, etc.. It pulls really hard on top end. Yet I still have good low end power. I have a really big cam in my truck. So I filled the plenum with a expoxy like Hughes engines. I have no idle trouble at all. I see allot of gen2 and gen3 dakotas with ported stock beer keg intakes running low 12's and high 11's. I don't really see the need for a M1. You should gain aleast what the M1 does, if not more.

Message: There is nothing you can do to the beer barrel to match the performance gains of the 2bbl M1. I recently did a dyno run after installing my 2bbl M1 and it showed significant gains over the stock manifold. 20hp peak increase, but 45hp increase at 5000RPM and 50hp increase at 5500RPM. TQ also improved. Peak number dropped off, but showed a 45ft/lbs increase at 5000RPM, and kept the 50ft/lbs increase through 5600RPM. The curves for the M! were much smoother and flatter than the beer barrel, peaked at a later RPM, and held the power. With the 2bbl M1 I am still making 240hp to the wheels at 5200RPM with minor bolt ons.
