Message: Ok guys, I have a stuck lifter and was wondering what I could try to do about freeing it up without digging into my motor, I just dont have the time right now or the money (for the 1.7 RR, if I go after a lifter I might as well stick those in there while I'm at it). Is there anything that I can do to free this little bastard up???

Message: Please don't blast me on this. We did this in the 70's. We would squirt brake fluid into the carb while keeping the engine running until the lifter would free up. Then add a little brake fluid to the crankcase. Also if there was a small leak in the automatic transmission seals a capfull of brake fluid would swell the seals and stop the leak. More than a capfull and it was trouble.

Message: I believe they still make "top end" lubricants that you can add to your oil. I think this is for preventivive maintainence and may not free an already stuck lifter.
Are the lifters hydraulic..? I can call some mechanics I know and ask them about your stuck lifter.

Message: Hydraulic roller lifters. There is engine treatments out there for cleaning the internals of the engine but I don't know if they work.

Message: Mud runner, drain 1 qt of motor oil, add 1 QT OF RISLONE ENGINE TREATMENT, and run for about 100-200 miles, drain all oil out and filter, add fresh oil and new filter. Rislone engine treatment is a excellent product been around for years, i have used it befor couple times, mild solvent with petroleum base. cleans out entire engine sludge, varnish, etc. cost is around 4.00 QT. any auto parts store should have it.

Message: Kevster is right on. The only thing I would do different is change the oil with it and a good filter with it. NAPA GOLD or MOPAR(the antidrainback is the most critical part) The reason they stick is usually a little varnish and also a filter that drains out at night will cause it. Notorious on 3.3 engines. Fixed many a 3.3 where everyone said they needed lifters, change oil and filter and add Rislone.

Message: I would drain out a quart or 2 of oil and put tranny fluid in the motor. I had an 86 monte carlo that had a stuck lifter. I put 2 quarts of tranny fluid in the motor let it run for about a half hour reving the morot a couple times and it came lose.

Message: Yes the transmission fluid is another old trick. Also using Marvel Mystery Oil in the same way has been done with success.

Message: You can try some Marvels Mystery Oil in the crank case. I would put it in and drive the truck for 100 miles tops. Then change your oil and put 0W30 Mobile 1 synthetic oil in it. The light weight oil will flow into places that a thick conventional would not flow and a good synthetic has 4-10 more natraul detergency. Change your oil at the next oil change and return to your normal weight oil.

Message: Perhaps you'd call them "hydraulic lash adjuster"? Same thing. The valvetrain is similar to that of the 2.2/2.5L engines. Occasionally they can drop a rocker arm on the head.
