Subject: Bruce/Bernd-70mm TB Fix?
IP: Logged

Message:
Figured I'd start a post on this (I swear some of my posts in another 70mm TB subject seem to get deleted)

As you know, some of us who went in on the initial 70mm TB buy have two idle issues:

1)Sticks at 1100 RPM, won't kick down
2)Flucuates between 400-700 RPM

What free fix is available for the above problems and how will you get it out to us to apply same?

Do you need anymore informaiton re: these problems?

Thanks in advance...

BTW, have later production runs of the 70mm TB, NOT show the idle problems?

For you folks who recently got the 70mm TB, do you experience the idle issues?

Thanks...

JoeC: Have you noticed any idle issues yet with your new 70mm TB?

Thanks in advance...

Hey Mace,

I've had my F&B 70mm tb for couple months now and have put a couple k miles on it. I'm quite happy with the increase in performance.

I too experience some idle fluctuation but only during warm-up. It is infrequent and really quite minor unless the truck warms up slowly. Once warm, the problem goes away.

Your situation seems worse and obviously of concern to you.

FWIW, I plan on changing the IAS when I next clean the tb to see if that makes a difference(have an extra one from the 68mm upgrade). I also plan to do the TPS adjustment to see what that does. My mechanic says he can lock the idle with his scantool(but he's more of a chebby expert so I don't know if that is possible or not).

Only other thing I can think of is that because I run DEI Radiator Relief I may warm up faster, minimizing the fluctuation time. Also, South Fla. heat may have a bearing on it.

Anyway, hope you get your problems resolved. If I come up with anything I'll let you know.

I to have the 70mm TB and I had issues with the idle like others,Come to find out it wasn't the TB causing the idle trouble but(CW help me out here)the power steering pump was bad and it would tell the PCM to up the Idle higher seems when you crank your steering all the way to the stop it sends a signal to the PCM to idle higher!!!!!!!

I haven't paid that much attention to the dakotas. Do they have a sensor in the pressure line somewhere? Usualy it is a small car thing to have the idle bumped for parking lot maneuvers. It is due to the lack of torque the little 4 bangers have. Maybe they did this on the daks but I am not aware of this at the moment and it is to damn cold out there to look right now.

The idle problems are noticed whem our trucks are fully warmed up and at operating temps.

When the idle is flucuating very low (400 RPM to 700), for me, turning my steering wheel doesn't help the issue, sometimes turning the defroster on bumps it up, sometimes not.

When the idle sticks at 1100 RPM and won't kick down, I've never remembered turning the steering wheel all the way over in either direction and my power steering pump seems to be functioning normally.

Pending further feedback, I'll probably email Bruce soon.

Thanks...

First day with new f&B 70mm TB.
Drove about 80 miles. No major idle problems, as other have stated. I did notice a hesitation during acceleration (worse when cold). Happy with mid and high hp/tq improvement, but i gotta do something about the hestitation. The TPS was at .60v with 65mm TB, now .52v with new TB. I plan to by the CW trick with removeing the brass inserts to adjust the TPS to .80 or so. I also reset the PCM.

BTW. 16.6 mpg with alot WOT. ;)

I just posted to the other 4.7 idle fix thread.. Not much new news unfortunately except that we diagnosed another high idle as PCM commanded. Something in the truck thought the idle needed to be that high... We think it is another case of the P/S unit, but I didnt have the OBDIII module in my scanner to verify. Idle dropped to normal when I disconnected the P/S pressure sensor, but went erratic after we goosed it since it wasnt getting any info from the sensor at all. We will keep working with this truck to verify a fix. On the same truck, whenever you twitch the wheel at idle the RPMs vary up and down about 150 revs according to the tach. When manually commanded between 800 and 1400 rpm on the scanner, the idle was perfectly normal and well behaved. When the IAC counts were set to 0, the truck idled (sort of) at 350-400rpm. More next week.

Bruce,

John (Intense Performance) has the specifics on the vibrating throttle "fix" now. He can do it for us but we'll need to have a test "Z-Tube" sent for verification. You want me to have him send it to you?
