We lined up on a back road. He had a Club cab R/T with an air raid intake and a spintech exhaust. I had a Club Cab 4.7L 5-speed with a cold air intake, port/polished TB, Poweraid Spacer, and a Gibson Cat-back duals. We started out even, both spinning for about six or seven feet. I was ahead the whole time, at the end his front bumper was by my rear bumper.

He was just spinning harder :) LOL Was this a 0-60 sprint? Did you race more than once? Who said go, or did you take off first to start to race. Did you switch lanes? If his noise was still at your bumper, then it's too close to say who's truck is faster, plus driver weight and skill, gas in tank. What year trucks? Too many variables :)
Any ways enjoy the kill. Not all R/T's or 4.7's are equal. Some fast, some slow.

It was an estimated 1/4 mile. Yes we raced a few times. I said go (he did not want to) and we both always went at the same time. I weigh 50 lbs. more than him. We did not switch lanes. I had half a tank of gas, his gas light was on. He was running 87 Octane, I was running 93 octane. He had a 2001 R/t with 9,500 miles, I had 2002 4.7 with 4,000 miles. I still have total respect for the R/T because he was letting the trans do the shifting. :)

havent raced any r/t's. only fullsize rams want to play. probably to see what it will "do". but i do need to know what a new 01' maxima runs. auto se model. ran with one this morning got ahead so he was 1/2 car behind me. tried to get him to run again at the next light but he wouldnt. ran him up on the highway around 110mph. he didnt look happy at the light though. we got up over 80 and he still couldnt pull up on me. thanks for any help. i think i will go to LEBANON VALLEY , NY to run the official 1/4 just to know for sure. well keep on trukin'

very true R/Truck... i did that my first race! it was against a single cab 2001 chebby with an exhaust and intake and ram air hood. i beat him without the nitrous... i tried to get him to pull over but he must of seen the V6 emblem on my truck and kept going.

That's a dumb statement to say YJ. It's retiring due to it's EPA stuff, better mileage, less emissions, and so on, and not because it doesn't have power. Juniork never said he beat the R/T every time. It's all hearsay in this case, show some videos. I can see the Juniork truck giving that CC R/T a run for his money due to it's poor traction. Stock R/T are Torque monsters, without a good start a 4.7 will hit it's sweet spot later in the race, so the R/T spent most of it's accelerating power on doing a burn out rather than laying down that power to overcome Juniork. If anything the mods on the 4.7L are much better than what was used on the R/T, air raid intake and a spintech exhaust are about worthless due to the already free flow exhaust, and Air raid intake with stock hat and sucking in hot air from the engine. Think what you will, but the 5.9L is great to modify. Yes, I would purchase at 4.7L with the stick out of the box, because it's a great setup and awesome with a KB. But with my few mods I have now, my RT
fly's and doesn't die off at 4000rpm like stock.
K&N FIPK2,F&B 50mm TB, 2bbl M1, 1.7RR, 180Tstat, Magnaflow Muffler, Wires, Cap/Rotor, etc. Still having a hell of a time trying to remove my exhaust manifolds, darn pre-cats :( Gibson headers just laying in my garage in the box! Err

Wow, real defensive there Anthony, then again, most everyone is when it comes to their vehicles.
I doubt he was here to start trouble, he was probably real surprised and proud that he beat the "racing" version of the Dakota. Like me, I expected the R/T to be faster and be something to look up to -- and in many ways I still do.
Instead of gettin defensive and over analysing the race, just say "congratulations".
Try it, might make this board a whole lot more enjoyable, if people just gave a few words of civility to one another.

It's all driving, I don't mean anything by it but most here tend to put too much into the machine and not enough into the driver. When a friend of mine got his brand new '99 CC 4.7 he wanted to race my '92 5.2 CC 90,000 mi (both autos). He had put a cold air intake on it already and i had open element, headers, and 3" cat back duals. well we raced on the local strip and he was furious when after 4 runs the closest he could come was 3 tenths behind me. So we switched trucks and after we each took a couple practice runs the gap was down to 1/2 of a tenth between the trucks..the gen2 being ahead. Practice is the cheapest ET gains you can have.

I think the mods and the driving did have a lot to do with it too.
R/Truck-it was my first race with the truck, and I am on my roof yelling, "I WON, I WON!!" and it was chocolate milk :)
MikeD-I did beat him everytime, but I told you about this one time because it was more interesting because it was a closer race than the others.

im from central CT. about an hour and 10min away from the track. my wife has a quad cab as well. she is dying to run me at the track. weve gone light to light and had fun. you know what is worse for car owners. getting beat by a four door truck with a cap on it!!! ;) well be going to the mopar show and race when it comes. havent checked the schedule yet. hey and remember its a truck! yeah sure.

I'm not sayin' you have a bad motor. The 5.9 is a fine engine and, yes, can be modified to death. However, every motor has had its time. You can't keep trying to restructure the architecture on a 486 chip. Sometimes, to climb higher, you have to wipe the slate clean to create a Pentium 4. That's what the 4.7 is. If I crammed 10 gigs of memory and overclocked the heck out of a 486 sitting in a block of ice, I'm sure it could perform as well as some of the P4's but there always comes a time. But I'm sure you already know that.
Don't get me wrong, the 5.9's a great motor. I still miss the 318 5.2 in my old 76 dodge custom 100. ;)

gen2dakota. im in the bristol area. havent joined any clubs with limited time on hand but will try to get to some shows. both trucks are 01' quad cabs. my wifes is a red sport and mine is patriot blue SLT. both with gibsons and k&n drop in. the wifes has mud tires were mine i left stock for long rides. had a talk with the guys at holley dodge at the frank marrata auto show about superchargers. need to finish my 'stang first. hope it will beat the truck!!

Sorry If sounded that defensive? But my point is, that even the 4.7L is still a fuel fossil burning engine. It's just tweaked more than the 5.9, and I wouldn't go as far as calling the 5.9L a 486 and the 4.7L a P4. Maybe a P3 Slot to a P3 PGA.
Even the 5.7L is not that advance, check out all the high tech stuff the other companies have! Variable crank that changes compression, Variable Valves, Variable intake running ports, Variable Rocker Arms, and much more. The fact still remands that the 4.7L found in the Dakota still make less power than the old dog 5.9L. NASA might even still use a 386 on the shuttle.
I had a 78 Powerwagon 100 4x4 with the 5.9L, now that was a 486 ;) still very strong engine. Sure out performed the Toyotas.

Oh just noticed YJ compared the 4.7 to the Pentium 4 the first time so that would be right... Thing about the comparing the 4.7 to the AMD processors is that the Athlon has no thermo diods to shut down the chip when its been overclocked too fast thus it pretty much toasts it self If you get too carried away with it(ussually only happens to idiots who dont know what they'er doing but there have been quite a few returns lately and complaints about em). So that would imply that with each mod you add to a 4.7 thats the more unstable the engine gets... Athlons a great processor... just not a good analogy to use when comparing to engines! Then again I guess there would come a point when you couldnt overclock a P4 without it shutting it self down... So maybe processors all together are just not cut out to be anaologies :P.

I think the Cray is one big UNIT like the 5.9L. But a server farm has many small systems, it's like trying to cram more than one engine into a truck.
Did anyone ever read about this car that had a 16 cylinder engine, it was basically two V8's one in front of the other. It was so smooth, very flat torque and made over 1000hp & 1000tq easy.
