Subject: nitrous question IP: Logged
Message: Is it realy that dangerous to use the spray when the bottle presurs is below 900 ibs due to cold.I was told if i didnt get a bottle heater soon their is a chance my truck could detonate because of lack of nitrous to make up for tha fuel being added. I run a nx kit on a 4.7 5-speed.
P.s. What is the best fuel additive for use with nitrous? Thanks for your time

Message: I'm curious - how much does the nitrous cost?
Not the hardware, just the nitrous gas itself.
About how much nitrous gas is used in a single 1/4 mile run. I know it must vary by engine size, if you're using a 50 hp shot versus a 125 hp shot, etc.
Thanks

Message: whoa.....that's expensive!!!
here in texas it's $2 a pound.
a rule of thumb i have heard is 10 pounds will make 10, 10 second pulls with a 100 shot.
but the last few aren't as strong as the first few.

Message: I run nitrous on my '88lx 5.0. Use of a bottle
heater is a good idea for consistancy at the
track. I like to spray my 'stang at about 1100
psi.
In your case, low bottle pressure will cause it
to spray rich. Your truck might blow some
black smoke but it should by no means cause
it to detonate. You should be able to spray
until your bottle is almost empty.
I can always feel when my bottle is running out
'cause the "hit" will be inconsistant, causing
my car to surge.
Anyway, I don't see where you have a problem.
You're much better off running rich than lean,
that's when detonation occurs and pistons
melt, etc.
Later,
Lemmers
