Subject: Drop-in or FPIK IP: Logged
Message: So, I purchased a drop in after repeatedly posting questions of if I should on another site. Now I read all the rave reviews about the FPIK and wonder if I wasted $45. If you read my post of results w/ the filter you know I am not dissapointed in the filter, just my rush to purchase.... something.
So what do I do? About the filter that is. Is a FPIK really worth tossing the drop in. What are the real fuel savings and performance difference?
Any help would be appreciated. I have an 02' Quad 4x4 auto 4.7 15 1/2 city and 21 highway.

Message: the question is: Is the FIPK mileage and performance gain, over a drop-in, significant enough to toss the drop-in?
If so, then does anyone have real data @ mph and hp?
Thanks

Message: What rezdak is saying is that K&N doesn't have an FIPK out for the 4.7 as of yet, so there IS no mpg or HP data. You can't even get a rough estimate, because the FIPK performance results vary widely depending on the vehicle & engine. Plus, K&N has been supposedly having problems getting any significant performance improvements with the 4.7 in testing, hence the major delay.

Message: I had a homebrew cone (K&N). It performed great and sounded good. I have since put my filter box with a drop K&N, and partial homebrew (filter box to TB). The filter box allows for the home brew ram air (ducting through fog light holes). Noitcable difference in power (can accel at 80 to spd lmtr, like is was accel from a stop). Does not have the sound the cone had. That's ok. I have since put on a 50 series Flowmater with daul 2.5's out in front of the rear pass wheel. Think the weak link is know the 65 mm tb which will soon be replaced with 70mm.
Bottom line. Both performed, "Cone" sounds better, "Drop-in" easier to clean, mpd no change. soory no data.
