Hey, i currentyly have the flowmaster 40 series on my 3.9L v6 dakota and was wondering if there was anyway i could make it louder but still sound good.

Want to be loud? Take that 40 Series off and run it with no muffler. Keep the cat. That's what I did on my 5.2L and it sounds wicked.

I've got cat-back duals with no mufflers on my
GenII dak w/3.9, sounds sweet at idle, good to about 2500 where it starts to get ricey, it tends to be a little raspy all-around, but the raspiness almost sounds like an echo. So it has a definite self reverb. Just for reference it's 2 1/4" pipe I believe with 22"x3 1/2" tips coming out at 45s just under the corner of the bumper.

Yeah I did that to my 5.2 before I installed the exhaust..actually does sound pretty good..kinda like an inboard boat though....now i'm running true duals 3" all the way that ends in the dual exit pace setter resonators...bad ass

get a straight through muffler, or single
chamber, run no cat, 3" pipes and headers.
I put 3" pipe, catback, a dynomax ultra flow
race welded muffler (6" round 21" long) and a
cone tip 3" in 4" out. If I lived outside Cali I
would probably remove the cat.
Super loud, all the way through from idle to rev
limiter and I had the 40 series 2 chamber
flowmaster prior to the dynomax, and I never
looked back.

no no no.....don't get a straight through with that V6! they sound terrible and loose performance. i had the dynomax racing bullit. it was straight through and only 18" long. Sounded very ricey and intolerable inside the cab.

OK, I got a question for you guys who seem to like to have parts left over when they put their trucks back together...
How does the law feel about people who remove their cats and/or mufflers? I personally can't stand my cat. They mufflers OK, I suppose and with the right one I think it can help me performance-wise.
What's ya'lls (and the laws) take on this. Can I get away with it in Georgia?

Whenever I bought my R/T ... I thought to myself... I want to have a fast, aggressive legal truck. I want to be able to go to the track, smoke some ricers and also be able to drive back in it. It is illegal to not have cats, but perhaps if emissions in Georgia arnt that strict... you can get away with it. Why not just spend the 100 bucks on a high flow cat?

There's only one thing I have to say about all this: LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES. Unless you have a top-fuel dragster, or a circle track car that is so loud that is impossible to even think within a 300 foot radius, mufflers are for geezers. Keep the cat though, it smells better that way.
