Subject: H-Pipe or straight back ? IP: Logged
Message: Question for you guys. I've got a 99 R/T. As of now I still have the stock exhaust on it. I want to go dual, but I want to know from you guys from your own experience... which is better. Straight back, meaning headers, 2 high flow cats, 2 muff's out the back.... or H-pipe for equalization? Not sure which to do, and money for the extra cat isnt really a problem. I'd really appreciate any input or suggestions.

Message: I beleive that the H-pipe really need to be installed. It will improve the performance by helping scavange the exhaust gas and eliminate resonnance. And since money is'nt a problem, did you ever heard of X-style crossover pipes, they deal more efficiently with exhaust pulses.
Hope this helps!

that post should answer your question about wanting true duals, unless you're just doing it to say you have it. <~~ which is cool, i just about made plans to do the same.

Message: what did you finally decide to do then Sgt G ? I understood what the guy said under that post... but what size would be sufficient or should I say... most efficient size? The main reason in my mind that I wanted true duals... is that logically in my mind, I think more room for airflow out would have been best... I guess not? What did you gather from it if you dont mind sharing )

Message: Well first I have a 4.7.. so i need smaller pipes than you to keep my low end torque because i haven't SC or turboed. I need that smaller diameter to keep a longer column of air moving at a faster momentum so it pulls the air out. I'm getting JBA's, ditching the cat, (using an offroad pipe when i go to race that is) going with the 2 1/2 MBRP exaust with dual 2 1/4 outs. I'll be flowing just fine with that until i do my forced induction setup. I've got the free flowing intake (and the heads are comin off soon to go to KRC) to go with the exhaust. I hope that post helps you some. And you're at Camp Lejune right? rank? unit? (not that i'd call you sir in here if you were an officer.. heh) if you really want the dual setup.. go with a smaller diameter, and definitely use the H or X pipe to calm down the banks of you 8 fighting each other. take it easy

Message: Go with an X-pipe. Car Craft proved that it made more TQ & HP than the h-pipe.

Message: just to clarify.. i didn't mean go with smaller pipes than me.. i meant to go with smaller than you would use on a single pipe setup for your truck. the R/T bubbas will know better than me as to the best diameter for you.

Message: Did a little math, and talked to my genius uncle. He's saying 3 should be perfect. Low end would run best at 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 and that High end would like 3 1/4 or 3 1/2.... so I'm just gonna do 3" methinks. Gonna check with this guy down the road first, and see what he says. Yeah.. Camp Lejeune... Electronics Maintenance Company, Maint Bn, 2nd FSSG.. and I'm just a boot Sergeant. Yup.. just a POG. Thanks for your help guys.

Message: Dual 3's are huge, that car craft article did run dual 3's but only after the x-pipe, it was dual 2.5's before. That was a race only mustang wanting max RPM and HP (I think it was 335 RWHP). I guess it did work for them and it was a smaller motor, but I would think dual 2.5's are plenty.

Message: Definetly put in some form of crossover. Without the equalization there are exhaust pulses that cannot be equalized. Basically is evens out the scavenging of exhaust.
