 Subject: how do you check fuel pressure?

on my fuel rail (98 5.2) there is fuel pressure relese valve. can i hook a air gauge to it and check the pressure like you would check air in a tire? or is this incredibly stupid?

that's incredibley stupid. j/k.....but that isn't the way you do it. most auto part stores have a fuel pressure tester. it looks like a compression tester but with an extra hose on it...it hooks up to the test port and disable the ignition and crank the engine over 2-3 times and read the gauge....the extra hose has a push button on it to release the pressure and drains the fuel out of that hose (outside of the vehicle) so you can take the tester off.

How come you want to check your fuel pressure?
if there is any problems with the pressure the computer will let you know... It is constantly checking it to make sure there is sufficent pressure.

beth, there should be a test port with a schrader valve on the fuel rail. the fuel rail feeds fuel to all the injectors.
