Subject: Truck wants to start after I turn if off IP: Logged
Message: I have a 5.2L 318. I put on headers, gibson exaust, 9mm wires, and cold air intake. The truck runs fine and is quick but when I turn it off it sounds like it wants to star back up. I talk to a couple of shops. They said to buy a PCM, retard the timming, or advance the timming. It's like every guy i talk to says to do some thing diffrent. But I read you can't ajust the timming because it is controlled by the PCM. I also no it is runnig rich because the cat gets very hot. If any one has any ideas on want to do please respond.

Message: Sounds like it's dieseling or run-on. Especially if it has been running rich for a while. Running rich causes carbon deposits to build up in your combustion chamber and on the piston. The carbon will acutally get hot enough to still ignite the fuel even after you turn the engine off until all the fuel is used up in your intake ports and it quits. If this is the case, then you need to correct the rich condition before it destroys your motor (ie, pull codes, check O2 sensor). Carbon is like sandpaper on your cylinder walls.
The only other explanation I can think of is an electrical short somewhere. Turning your key off isn't killing the power.

Message: I agree with Muzzy - too much carbon in combustion chambers will cause dieseling. Lots of idling / driving slow can contribute to this - open it up to try to blow it out. Short term fix is to shut it off in gear if you have an automatic - it wont diesel with the extra drag on motor.

Message: Get some fuel systems cleaner and run it through the engine. Also, you can adjust the fuel sync timing, or at least the dealer can. Have them check the feul sync timing with the DRB. Should be around 0. This could also be why you are running rich. If the fuel sync is off it will cause a rich condition.

Message: i dont know if this is the problem but that happened to my brother with his truck and he just had to use a higher octane gas...he was putting the cheap stuff in and it would diesel real bad.

Message: The truck never idles, and I always put in fuel system cleaner evey tank. See this started after I put on all the upgrades. It never did it before. I'll fill the tank with 92 octane and see what willl happen. What if the feul sync timing is not 0 then what do the do to ajust it or make it 0? Thank you for your help

Message: I put 93 octane fuel in it and it still is doing it. Should I buy the chip?
