"GM Stealthily Buys Back Noisy Trucks, SUVs
November 26, 2003
General Motors has been quietly buying back dozens of full-sized pickup trucks and SUVs after consumer complaints about knocking noises from the engine, consumer lawyers said.
GM confirmed that it has received "a small number of complaints" about excessive engine noise after cold starts of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups as well as the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs. Most of the affected models are from the 1999 to 2002 model years and are equipped with 4.8-liter, 5.3-liter and 6.0- liter V-8 engines."

Message: Hi people,
I've monitored this board for almost a year now, and have been impressed with most posts and responses. I am technically a chevy fan because my father owned nothing but GM, of which we never experienced problems with (he also owns a slightly warmed over '57 chevy 2 door post - which is my favorite car of all time.) I own a '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD w/5.9 liter, an '85 Mustang GT w/500hp 306sbf (on pump gas), and a 67 camaro w/870hp 509bbc. I've built many small blocks and a few big blocks of the big 3, and can honestly say every design has it's strong and weak points. All the motors I've built would be ranked in the high performance catagory.
Instead of going on about what I think is beast and why, I'll share with you the experiences I've had with the motors I've built.
Chevy:
600hp 383 sbc - 11.5:1 comp, brodix heads mildly ported, comp cams solid roller cam, blah blah blah. This motor had brutal torque (590 ft lbs @ 4800 rpm.) Dropped into a '70 chevelle - runs 10.30's @ 128mph in the 1/4. Not bad for a freight train, that can also run pump gas when the timing is brought down. Lets keep in mind that the sbc gen 1 motors were designed back in the early 50's.
Cost = $4200
Mopar:
570hp 360 mpr - 11:1 comp, W2 heads cnc ported, wild ultradyne solid roller cam grind (sounded awesome!) Dropped into a '71 Cuda. Runs 11.00 flat in street trim. Also runs pump gas when not racing.
Cost = $6100
Ford:
610hp 358 Ford Cleveland - 12.5:1 comp, race ported factory heads, comp cams solid roller cam. Dropped into a '67 mustang - sweet ride! Runs 10.70's all day long. Nothing less than 100 octane for this bad boy.
Cost = $6500
I like em all - and they're all capable of making huge horsepower.
