Message: Yea,
on the 4.7, take off the air hat, use a fernco 90, and about 7" of PVC both 3" ID, and a 3" fernco connector for the pvc to the stock air box.
take off the elbow, and flap as stated.
with the K&N drop in, about $50 total.
Also, a 180 thermostat, and the old AIT adjuster!

Message: Bernd, don't you mean relocate from the manifold to the intake tube?
And if we don't have a voltage meter can we go ahead and drill out the brass inserts on the TPS sensor?

Message: You can drop the entire exhaust system behind the cat, that frees up power, is not that loud as the many cats act as mufflers, and drops a good chunk of weight. Weight loss is the same thing as free HP as well. I'd lose the spair and tailgate come off real easy. The rear bumper is not very hard to remove, only run 1/8 to 1/4 of a tank of gas. If you were just making a couple of passes in clean air you could remove the air filter entirely. Pump up the air pressure in your front tires, but on most factory radials you don't want to lower the rears to much as it ruins the contact patch. let the motor cool off good between runs, or even put ice bags on the intake manifold and feul rails between runs. You can remove the clutch fan on the years with both electric and engine driven fans. A short belt is often possible (not quite free but under $10) so you can bypass everything but the water pump and alternator. That and the other things mentioned will do more then you might imagine for a good 1/4 mile run.

Message: On the 5.2, and 5.9 (maybe the 3.9s also?) engines you can replace the factory airhat hold down bracket/bolt arrangement with a "J" bolt made from some 1/4-20 allthread and a nut. You'd be surprised at how something that small can change the airflow into the TB.
On the 4.7 engine if you remove the throttle body from the intake manifold, you will find a flat chunk of plastic flashing that hangs down into the opening at the top of the manifold. Cut that flashing back smooth with the top edge of the manifold. Just make sure you don't lose any of the plastic to the inside of the manifold.
