Subject: MBRP catback installed IP: Logged
Message: Slapped 'er on today ... pretty happy with the end result. Looks and sounds mean as hell! Definitely flows better than stock single pipe, that much I can tell you!
Drawbacks:
No more hitch receiver. Didn't recall reading anything on the website about this, probably my fault for not asking, but no more hitch. Won't fit with the pipes exiting the rear.
Spare tire is now in the box. The website shows a spare tire under there, but must be a 28" tire. My 31" spare wouldn't fit.
Instructions are pretty much non-existent. A one page sheet with very little information related to the install. Kinda fly by the seat of your pants.
Install took about 5 hours including a short lunch break. We had a lift, torches, air tools, the works. Be prepared to spend a little time under your truck to get the kit on!

Message: Yeah, we twisted and tweaked til we were blue in the face ... LOL! It was a no-go with my truck anyway.
Oh well, my F150 had dual pipes out the back and I drove it for many years without a spare. I'll get used to it again!

Message: Art - if you mean did we install the hangers "up or down", we installed them with the hanger on top ... as high as possible. My tips are a couple of inches beneath the bumper. But didn't gain any "width" between the pipes for the spare.
Lesley - hehehe ... it'll have to say "bite my PIPES" ... LOL
And Graphite - sorry! didn't mean to wake you! hehehe

I couldn't give up my receiver hitch & wouldn't want to relocate the spare so it wouldn't work for me:-(

Message: You ran into all the objections I have with the MBRP. Because yours is a 4x4, you didn't have the issues the lowered truck guys have, that's another negative knock to the MBRP. It's also why I went to the trouble of having SpinTech do the Cuda style exhaust on my truck. Clears the spare, clears the hitch, though it's reeeeeaaally tight. Here's a couple of pics shot while it was on the rack at SpinTech. Sorry I haven't gotten out to get a more complete set of pics.

That's 3" pipe from the headers to the new super high flow cat. 3" to the muffy and 2 1/4" out to the Cuda tips(no pics of those here). The one issue with this setup I didn't like, but it's being worked on, is the tips stick out further than I would like. Either I will have these trimmed back or have SpinTech look into making a new tip that better clears the hitch.

Message: Hey Blizzard, what's the spacing between the pipes at the tips? I'm waiting on my set to come in from the last group buy and you've got me worried that this is going to be more of a hassle than I expected! The guy I emailed at MBRP said I would have no problems installing with spare in the stock location, but I've got a 31" also. I've got a Club, so I don't know if that will make any difference or not. Also have a hitch receiver that I CANNOT live without. Guess I'll just have to see how it all lines up.

Message: Graphitert,it really doesnt matter what company you get a rear exiting exhaust from you will have issues with a lowered truck and hitch depending on the style of the hitch,as far as the tips go there are lots of choices there, you can even get 2 peices of pipe made up to exit out the sides behind the rear wheels if you wanted to,I went out and measured my spare it is 30 3/4 inches width and has about half inch clearence on 1 side and less that that on the other side, remember to align everything up with the truck on the ground,I know I harp alot about MBRP not because I get anything out of it just but becasue its good, exhaust is finicky anyone that does exhaust knows this and sometimes you have to do a little modifying with a supposedly bolt on kit,I have had to many times maybe I got lucky this time,I dam sure deserve it for all the times things dont go right :) and I`m sure you can make the hitch work aswell

Message: I just remembered (duh) that the bottom of my hitch crossbar is just about flush with the bottom of the bumper, with the receiver being the only part that actually clears the bumper, so won't have a problem there. Now just the spare to fiddle with.

Message: Yeah, i got in on they MBRP group buy and its got me a little worried, im half tempted to take it to a shop and have them do it rather than my self (i know i'd get sh!t for it, i put a KB supercharger on my self, but i cant even put on a simple cat back). I'm probably just gonna see what happens after it comes in, go down there, lay in the snow, and take the gibson off to see if everything will fit. And if it doesnt fit, i'll take it to a shop and have them put it on (hehe, let them deal with the problems). Hope everything goes on easy tho. *GlenC crosses his fingers.

Message: Ok guys. Here's some answers:
I have a 2000 4.7L Auto 2WD Dakota Sport.
I don't have half the tools Blizz had, although the install took about 5 hours with NO breaks ;)
It installed fine, cleared the stock spare no problem (15x7 with 215/75/15 on it). It sounds good, had no problems, love the sound. Pictures are ALL over my site - and the sound of it as well. Please check it out, and feel free to e-mail me with any questions or comments. It's outdated, I have R/T wheels on it now with 275/40/R17 Ohtsu tires. Good luck!

Message: Tried to install my MBRP dual yesterday to no avail. Biggest problem was my assumption that the hitch problem was a clearance issue and not a fastening issue. The frame holes used to mount the hangars are the same used to mount the hitch. Being rather frustrated, I quit pretty early on the project, but I'm thinking there may be a way to weld some brackets to the outside of the frame rails and hang the tips about 2 inches outside of their intended position. Don't know how everything will line up farther up by doing that. I'm guessing it would require some rebending. Plus, I noticed quite clearly that the 31" spare will not allow clearance, so I may correct that problem by spreading the tips as well. Don't know if its worth it or not, but I may give it a shot.

Message: Well, i got my catback on today. It wasnt that bad of an install. Probably only took me 3 hours tops with just me and my dad. My only complaint is the loss of my hitch and spare tire (i really didnt think the 32" would fit under there anyways). But i figure if i ever need the spare, i'll just call some one to bring it to me or something. And the hitch, well, the only think i could see my self towing is small utility trailers for cleanin up the yard and maybe a small jetski trailer or something. The bumper should work just fine. Over all, i think for the sound and the look, its all worth it. I was rather impressed with the install. The directions sucked, but everything went on ok. My drivers side pipe isnt very tight, even tho the clamp is as far as i could take it. And the tip rests against my bumper and melted the plastic back there. When i get a chance (probably close to the end of the week) im gonna take it to a shop and see if they can hook up some sort of hanger on the drivers side pipe to fix the problem. I'll have to take some pictures and put them up so you can see what im talking about. But as i said before, i think it was all worth it. I LOVE the sound and the dual exhaust just looks mean! I think that if i find myh self really needed the hitch, i'll save up some money for a while and get it custom fit some how. And the spare, if i REALLY need it, i'll have to find some way if i can lock it in the bed. Im thinking tonneu (sp) cover. Anyways, i love the system. And would recommend it to anyone that doesnt mind the few draw backs. If you have any questions, just email me. :)

DAMN! You call that bad, at least you SAW the instructions!! I thought it was shipment/packaging info and disreguarded it. I ended up cutting the pipe that sheet says DO NOT CUT! The pipe from the muffler and the cat, yupp, I cut it right in half. I did it! But, i was able to hacksaw it down and get it to fit back on, lol. MBRP directions = lame, but the exaust is AWESOME!
I installed mine in 20 degree, windy weather in the middle of the night with headlamps and on wet ground. It was fun!
