Message: I am looking for any suggestions, comments or general information.
I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota Club Cab 4.7L V8 with a 3.55 rear end. It is rated at about 5150 pounds.
I am going to be pulling a 21 foot Ultra light camping trailer, dry weight at about 3450. I do not fill any water tanks for travel. I couldnt imagine total weight more than 4000-4200 with food, clothes, battery, propane, etc.
I look to be about 1000 pounds under maximum weight.
I have already had the electric brake installed on the truck.
I have not put on the hitch yet.
I already have a 1000 pound weight distribution ready for it with a sway control from a previous truck.
I am also considering having an extra transmission cooler put on it.
What suggestions or comments does anyone have?
Thanks

Message: One time I was in for service and the mechanic came out and called his girlfriend. He started talking about the truck he was working on. He said that he could not figure out what was causing it to rattle. (It was my truck) He said that he had another mechanic look at it and they figured out that the exhaust heat shield neede to be tightened. I felt like telling him to get back in there and finish up so I could get my truck back!!

Message: Mine is a 5-speed with 3.92 gears. I tow a car trailer with mine fairly often. I've towed about 5800 lbs with mine. No problems whatsoever. That's with a regular receiver hitch and with R/T suspension components.

Message: Your going to like the way these trucks pull. I pull 1966 (heavy) 17' camper with AC on,no nocking with 87 octane, will outrun all my buddies pulling lighter campers, full watertank, and don't need sway control as long as I load weight to front of camper (carry extra water, large cooler & 10x20 canopy) Probably as heavy as what you're thinking - I do have factory tow package though. I'd definitly go with tranny cooler, I have extra cooling and don't see any rise in engine temp. Definitly use the trailer brakes.

Message: Yeah, it doesn't slow down much for hills. It towed very well before the turbo too.

Message: I have a '01 dakota 4x4 QC 4.7, I tow a lg pop up camper with mine. From all the info I've found I should B able to tow up to 6100#s. I have the tow package and I have the trailer brakes hooked up. The make a big difference in stopping ditsance! I used to have a Ford Ranger and though it was annice truck my Dakota sure makes towing and camping alot safer and more fun!
