Here we go again...i'm having trouble choosing between the two but
now leaning towards the Spintech.

Scenario 1: I can get a 3" catback from Spintech with the XL muffler
(little bit quieter than the others) for $191 shipped. This kit
retains the factory tail-pipe (which i want).

Scenario 2: I can get 3" pipe (by the foot) for around $13.50 and a
MBRP 3" muffler (stainless steel, custom made, 20" long) for
$169.99. I can use the 3" pipe to connect from after the cat to the
muffler and the one foot or so after the muffler that is 2.5".

Essentially i get the same thing, but different mufflers. The MBRP
route (Scenario 2) will cost about $100 b/c of the custom welding
needed, but if it's worth it (sound and quality) i'll go for it. I
want a pretty quiet system (i'm keeping factory cat), hence the 20"
MBRP and XL series Spintech.

Anyone have any input?

seems to me the 3" section between the cat and muffler wont do jack if you neck it back down to 2.5 on the tailpipe I'd go 3" all the way back and just have it bent to stock shape. Or am I reading that wrong.

On the mufflers, sadly I don't have a clue. 8-(

Well, the factory tailpipe is already 3". The stock muffler is 2.5" though, so right after the muffler i'd have to add a little part of 3" pipe to match up to the remaining tailpipe.
