Subject: RE: Finished M1 Install IP: Logged
Message: Just go to your local auto shop and pick up some PVC hose. Have them match up the hose size with your old hose with what they have in the back. Install that hose from you booster to the drivers side intake stem, the bigger middle one. For your drivers side valve breather, I used some more PVC hose that reached from the valve cover to the other side of the intake manifold on the passengers side into the larger middle stem. Just curve it around the back of the intake into the stem. It still looks good and this way you don't have to reduce your hose size. BTW it takes some time for you computer to learn the new air flow the M1 has. I love it when it down shifts or I give it WOT on the highway ramps :) About the leaking T-Stat, you should of pickup a new gasket. They are very very cheap, I have a part number at home. I used a small amount of RTV and a new gaskets. Did you clean off the old gasket or just added the RTV?

Message: I had to scrape off the old one it was STUCK to there pretty good but I realized I forgot to get a gasket and my buddy went to autozone for me but they were sayin they didn't make one for the 2001 yet and said we had to goto Napa but we didn't have one near by and was getting late so we just used RTV gasket maker on the t-stat housing...maybe I should take it off and install a gasket?

Message: Its this kind of stuff that makes me think it will take longer than expected. From what I've been told so far is that you need some Antifreeze and sealant (RTV, gray), and the normal tools. I'd like to have everything I need at the start - no running to the store for extra hoses or other work-arounds. :)

Message: I mean that was common sense stuff. If I woulda had my head outta my ass I woulda remembered to get a t-stat gasket. BUT what they don't include or even mention in the instructions is the reducer and extra hose. See the new intake is ALOT smaller than the fat beer keg so it takes longer hose to reach the offset of the new intake.

Message: Hey, I mentioned the extra hoses and gaskets for the T-stat in my last few posts. Next time you ask for a gasket, just have them look for 98 and up gasket for a 5.9L engine. I think the Ram might use the same gasket. If they can't seem to find one. Let me know and I can look at my open package that my gasket came from. I keep them for the part numbers :)
Yea your best bet would be to remove it and install a new gasket. Either way it's leaking right now right? I wouldn't reduce your brake hose, it might not give enough pressure under load and could cause you not to stop correctly.

Message: Well I had a guy help me out that knew his stuff and in the instructions it says just to unbolt the alternator and AC compressor but in order to even get some clearance to work we had to take off the plastic resivoir and the whole big alternator and AC bracket. Overall it took 5 hours like it said. It didn't look too difficult just remember where the bolts and all the vacuum lines go. I think the computer is still trying to learn it but so far it pulls alot better.
Here are my mods so far:
F&B 52mm TB
M-1 2bbl
Airaid intake
JBA shortys
JBA 9mm wires
Brass cap & rotor
Flowmaster 40 w/ dual 3-1/2" tips
3rd Cat removed
IAT Adjuster
Street scene grill & valence

Message: I had it removed before I put on the M-1 last weekend. It was definatley worth it and I've gotta say it sounds MEAN. It sounds like those ram air firehawks...it was funny when I went to my buddies to put on the M-1 there was a trans am gunning it down the block. So we got in and drove down a ways and that guy heard us rumbling down the street and got back in his car and followed us, but unfortunatley there was a cop and he got kidna suspicious so he followed us and made sure we weren't gonna race so that sucked. I know I couldn't have taken him but the sound alone is worth it I wouldn't even hesitate to do it, sounds great.

Message: Acutally I had a muffler shop who put on my headers and flowmaster to do it for me. I watched the guy and he used a saw for the section of the pipe behind the cat then before the cat he used a blow torch to heat the pipe up. Then just cut a section of new pipe to fit.

Message: I don't think mine will pass smog w/ all my mods I've done so far and being in Dallas. I'll have to take it back to my hometown which is a small hick town and all they care about is makin sure the headlights, blinker & brake lights work. Careful around cops and don't rev it too high cuz it does get loud!

Message: I don't have to worry about passing the smog test now that I live in Wichita, KS.
Even in Houston I use to slip a $20 to pass my GTA
which we did a few tricks to pass, but nothing like switching cars. It's so nice not worry about that dumb test! It's not like it help much, the real polluters where the factories, Metro Bus! and the misqeato killing Mexican junkers from Mexico or poorly maintained oil spewing trucks and cars in Houston.

Message: Normal things like warm up the engine, some testers don't even let the engine get to operating temp before running the test.
Keeping the RPM's near boarder line depending on the test either high or low. And a few other things that could pass or fail the test depending on the type of vehicle

Message: Just to let you guys know, I called Mancini Racing on their 1-800 number and asked them about the M1, and they have none in stock. It is all on back order.
I also emailed rpmoparts (http://www.rpmmoparts.com), and they have none in stock as well. Their price on their website is inaccurate, they told me in their email that the price is now $339.00 US (vs. $239.95 US on their website). I was also told that at least 85% of the items in the 2002 catalogue has had a price increase, that includes the M1.

Message: Anthony G, I totally agree. I recently placed an order with Bernd for a M1. With the exchange rate, it was rather pricey, but as you said, it really gives you a real peace of mind because you don't have to worry about that belly pan gasket failing. At least that is my primary reason for purchasing the M1.
