Subject: Welding Required? IP: Logged
Message: Have a 2001 R/T......I'm not sure why, but she has single exhaust- I've looked into some dual systems, but I'm not sure I can do the work myself. Can these aftermarket systems (headers + catback) be clamped together, or is welding required? My stock exhaust seems to be clamped together......

Message: I have heard that it doesn't make a difference. Alot of people like the welding but it is not suggested that you weld the entire length of the exhaust, it is a good idea to clamp in at least one place on each pipe. The reason you ask? If you ever hit a pothole or bump hard enough to injure your exhaust it will give at the clamp and you wont have to buy new pipes, just a couple new clamps.

Message: I believe any warranty work for the exhaust will be voided if it is welded. That wouldnt be good if your cat ever went bad. The cat is covered up to 80K or 8 years. Just a thought.

Message: I don't like welding either and I have a mig. If you need to change the exhaust setup more than once it is a real pain in the ass. I have change my exhaust set up twice on my truck and it is only 4 months old. LOL
