Hey guys, I live in tampa and lets just say some of the roads have serious problems. There are several roads I drive on that have a new pothole every week. There is more replacement asphalt than original! All this leads to some serious back wheel bouncin at speeds even under 30! It's even worse in turns. My best friends dad bought a used 97 5.2 regular cab dakota and it came with some sort of bars above his rear leafs that help this out. What exactly are those? Are they similar to helper leafs? What are my options? It is kinda hard to enjoy my great truck when it is bouncin around in the lane. Any help would be MUCH apreciated. Sorry for the length.

I had same complaint about rear stepping out from bumps in turns. It was suggested Roadmaster active suspension will help, which I will try since it should also help towing my camper; and a shock upgrade. I think stock shock has insufficient compression damping or maybe too much rebound damping. Seems like a lot of folks favor the pro comp es 9000, I'm leaninng towards the Edelbrocks as they seem to have similar features but with polyurethane bushings. Can anyone help with the shock choice ?

Hey Kevster,
BITE ME!!! I live in Ft. Myers, that is a little south of Tampa, and we don't have any "little cuba" here, it's more like Little Tijuana.
Any way,I also have the hopping problem,I think it's a combination of worn out tires(they get hard when they get old)and crappy shocks.I'm getting new tires and shocks soon and I hope it works.

P.S. Just kidding about the bite me thing!

My truck has 3000mi on it and the wheel hop in the soft snow is very annoying. I am sure it is the shocks because there is no spring wind up when I am just idling off the line.

Road masters did squat for wheel hop in the snow. But I hooked my 21 foot 5000lb trailer to it and the sway was greatly reduced.

So I should get new shocks? And what about helper leafs? I hear they are supposed to help with body roll and tire bounce?

The roadmasters definitely helped handling empty or loaded. I am thinking I will try the edelbrock shocks.

i have it too but mine is like a posi thing cause i added 2 bottles of mopar friction modifier so the inside tire hops and makes noise on any turn. and the stock shocks suck

as for his bars they are probably a custom 4 link, or other traction aid.

I had a lot of rear wheel hop, and found that if I lowered my rear tire pressure to ~35 psi, it mellowed a great deal. They were set to 45 psi...

I put a set of those Edelbrock shocks on my 2000 4x4 CC. I love them!
They dramaticly reduced the wheel hop and jump with road bumps. Well worth the price in my book.
