Subject: Flowmaster Dilema IP: Logged
Message: The local muffler place told me that the 50 series delta flow was very restrictive and would not allow my truck to gain much HP, but he then went on to say that the 40 series delta flow was the best choice for performance ?
is this yahoo correct, or am i correct with going with the 50 series delta flow.

Message: In theory he is correct but I highly doubt there will be enough of a difference for you to really tell. a two chamber is less restrictive then a three chamber. a two chamber will be louder but you will lose 3hp if that by going 3

Message: From what I've been told the reason so many people
use the 40 series is because it is the least
expensive flowmaster muffler. As far as being
restrictive even if it was it would still flow
better than stock, your best bet is to go right to
the source and call flowmaster they can tell you
what you want to know, they're not going to try
and push one series over the other, they'll
probably just be glad your buying one of their

Message: its still really restrictive. (40 series) I took my
40 series of and after I put my dynomax on w/
3" catback, the power increase was amazing.
If I were you I would go with a straight through
style muffler, forget 2 chambers or 3
chambers, do it right the first time.

Message: I installed a 50 series Delta-Flow Flowmaster muffler and I couldn't be happier. Good mid-range, and it helps to keep pulling to the top. Works really well with the K&N cold air intake.
I used the standard factory exhaust manifolds, cat and tubing (per Bernd's recommendation). Noise is good, only loud on hard accelleration.
I do get some "drumming" noise in high gear at about 50 - 55. Probably due to the style of the fron hanger bracket on the muffler inlet clamp. Overall, I'm very pleased with it.

Message: I called Flowmaster twice on these type of questions.
Explained I had a 2001 4.7, wanted the most HP gains possible with low to minimum noise in the cab
Both times they recommended the SUV Performance 50 Series...bigger casing (also thicker) promotes better flow (according to FM)
Don't think this is a 'delta series' muffler...they said this would be best for what I wanted...after about 6 months, I'm happy with it, even gives a nice pleasant 'gurggling' sound when you let off the gas, sounds great under acceleration, people look around when I start it up in the parking lot at work, and 'minimum' noise in the cab at highway speeds.
I did multiple mods at the same time as the exhaust, so no real feel if the exhaust alone really woke up the truck, put it works nice with all my other mods.
I do plan on swapping out the 3 inch tips for
3 1/2 inch 'megaphone' tips though.
Good luck with your choice, lets us know what you picked.
