Message: Here it is i dont know what the size of the R/T motor is i know its 5.9. but is it 360 or something smaller?
What i would like to know is if it is 360? can a crate 360 engin match up to the trans in the truck or need diff trans . are the trans the same in R/T and 4.7 automactic? Plus how or who do i talk to about computer plus throtl body to handle the engin. I dont live in a smog control state.so dont care if not smog leagle. Its looks a lot cheaper to buy a 360 crate engin that rated to 380 horse at $3500 to buying a supercharge thats $4000 and can only get me about 300 maybe dont know numbers i have a 00 4.7 .
so any i deals on anything said let me know.

Message: yes the 5.9 is a 360, im almost 99% sure the 360 will bolt up to your tranny, i think the only difference in an r/t transmission and yours is the gearing, you can look at www.krcperformance.com for all the throttle body and computer stuff...they really helped me, they also have a 408 stroker kit which is just a beefed up 360 that should bolt right up,
Hope that helped,
Cole

Message: Tranny bellhousing is supposed to be the same. That 4.7 is almost as much power as the stock 360, supposedly they downrated the HP#'s so as not to cut into 360 sales. 360 is heavier and a gas hog. Don't forget you'll need to factor in price of carb, new exhaust, higher stall torque converter and probably lower gearing as well. Also throttle cable,4.7 is fly by wire (computer controls throttle body).I've heard these motors need a higher stall torque converter to get into the power band even in an old 3300 pound A-body.I'd love to put one of those 4.7's into my '69 'Cuda, I think it would take about 70 pounds off the nose. Computer wiring would probably be a nightmare, though. If you don't go with lower gearing (most 4.7's have 3.55, some have 3.92's) the extra heat from slipping high stall converter could cook your tranny. Skip the high stall and your heavy truck will be a dog off the line. You might be happier with the usual speed tweaks hop ups and a lower axle ratio. Or just trade your truck for a 360 manual transmission and build from there.
