I have a 410 hp 66 383 I am very seriously thinking about dropping in a early 90s 2wd dakota....has anyone done this or have any comments? I am just tired of 350 S-10s etc and I just happen to think a BB Dakota would be a worthy project. I appreciate any suggestions.

That's a pretty stout 383!! sounds like a brilliant idea but I haven't heard of too many people doing that. I have seen one dak GenIII with a crate hemi in it, but it was a full race truck. Going by memory I would think it would be very similar to putting a big block in an A body (dart, duster) Don't know how much room you would have, considering there isn't a whole lot of room with the small block. But I think it's a great idea!

Hay man I am working on a big block dakota. It is a 1991 430,000 kms. I am puting in a 400 c.i. B engine same as the 383 little thicker block.

The mods that I have encounterd are 1" out of the K member for the oil sump even with the truck sump. Custom motor mounts and a kit from S.M.R. to mate the A-500 trans.

Using a 1967 newport rearend 8.75" nearowed 3.5" on both sides with tubed wheel wells. No gears yet but might try the stock 2.73 that are in it.

Want to drop it in the weeds 2.5" in the front and 3" in the rear.

Need to find headers that will work though. Probably out the front wheel well and side pipes on the outside of the frame.

If you start a project we can swap info.

Hey Guys, I too am dropping a stroked 400 into a 90 Dakota Mopar Express truck. I have talked to the people @ www.engine-swaps.com and they have answered a bunch of questions for me.
They have a kit with no holes to drill in the frame that gives you the:
Engine mounts
Tranny mounts - TF727
Oil pan and pick up - Milodon (can only get this pan from Schumacher/engine-swaps.com)

Headers - Custom made units only.
Exhaust Manifolds - 62-65 B-Body manifolds work pefectly. I got a pair for 100 bucks.
(Schumacher says he'll sell you a set for $135 = shipping.)

I would love to get email from anyone else who is doing this swap or wants to do it. I will help or hopfully someone can answer my questions too.

jeffaki@bellsouth.net

I think right now my biggest worry is all of the electrical conversions that have to take place.
Also, getting the speedometer correct.
I have a 8 3/4 narrowed rear end but what about a drive shaft. (I think I'm gonna have to get a custom one made)
I think my plate will read:
CAREATR

I'd like to get a Gen3 and put a BB in it. I know someone who has a 383 sitting in an old dodge challenger. Maybe after the 4x4 project is done I'll move on to a drag truck. Only time will tell.

Guys,

I saw a couple of them in Columbus. One with a hemi and I believe the other had a 440. Anyway, I look forward to hearing how things go.
