Sorry for the title...
but im sure you guys would feel the same.
7am this morn i go to my truck and someone had tried to steal it. I go to unlock my door and its already unlocked.. i get in and look at the other door and its unlocked... Then i look and see the casing around the ignition is ripped off and thrown all over the cab.. I get out .. Then to discover that there is a HOLE punched through my door on the passenger side *I get freaking mad as it is if anyone scratch's it* and the door handled is all mangled up and the door doesnt work.
NIce thing to wake up too ! Now im driving a TOyota tercel courtesy car..
Im in a nice nieghbourhood.. but apparently its been going on the last month and they've did their rounds on all the cars... Also attempted on my Girlfriends car aswell we found out 1/2 hour later..

Sorry to hear about the Dak Attack, Guess they were not pro's to much damage was done, they were probably kids. It will back on the roads soon.
Up where i live the insurance companys make us install GPS trackers for that sort of thing its called a boomerang system. Good luck, its happen to me too.

Sorry to hear about the attempt. Sounds like what happend to me a few years back. Some kid popped the passenger side window witha flat blade screwdriver. Took my Radar Detector, and started working on the cover over the ignition. I guess they got scared and ran off. I reported it to the cops, missed half a day from work getting the window replaced. Next night, just as the police said, the idiot came back of course the cops were not where to be seen. This time it was on a Friday night, gee I was up at 3:30am. I was up watching some movies, I see this guy with some tools working on the side of my truck. So, what did I do, well Something I should not have done, but I sure feel good about it now. I fired off 1 round up in the air out of my 12 Guage pump. He got the message, never had another break in in the apt. complex after that. The office manager asked me about gun shots the next day, I said , yea it was me, ( she knew that we had had several cars broken into) She did not have a problem with it, neither did anyone else in the complex.
Its not a suggestion, its just what happend in my case.

I moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1973 and lived in a one bedroom apartment just north of Sunrise Blvd.
One evening, I stepped out of my front door and could see across the parking lot, one guy on each side of my 1969 Dodge Van.
I stepped back inside my apartment and picked up my 12 gauge bolt Marlin shotgun. I snuck up behind a dumpster, (whew..really smelled in Florida)..and then yelled at them...the guy on the driver's side had just gotten the door open by popping the little vent window. He pointed at me and two shots went off. Both rounds hit the dumpster that I had stayed behind. I fired one round into the boxes in the dumpster and they both jumped out of the van...I happily blasted the one with the pistol right in the ass and down he went..the other dropped to the ground beside him and started yelling...
The cops showed up, (had wifey call them as I held them on the ground with the Marlin)..the one guy was bleeding pretty good..oh well..
the cops were not too happy with me, that is until the Lt. left the scene. Then they were slapping me on the back and telling me how cool it was.
Don't worry, he lived but limps, I am sure..sure enough, no more breakins in our apt complex while we lived there either.
I do not recommend this today, but judge yourself accordingly. I later went on to work as a cop..

Rascal, that is AWESOME! I plan on putting an alarm, break lock, and ignition killer sometime very soon. Before any other mods get put on, so no JBA headers for now.. What can I say, I am paranoid, but I'd rather do this than invest ina system etc, and gettin screwed later.
Hanging out on the audio forums on the net, I see posts weekly about people who have had a break-in, they usually end up spending the next few nights camped out in bushes with a .22 drinking...

Well, the reason I fired into the air, was because I was on my deck, on the lower level, and if I had shot at him, with my luck, in the dark, I would have shot out my windshield!

If any of you guys are running an MSD box in your trucks, you can use the white wire (used for magnetic pick up ignitions) as a kill switch. Just ground it. Put a switch inside the cab. It won't stop the would-be-thief but you won't lose your truck either.

That really sucks, I would be pissed to. My truck got broken into a week ago, and its in storage in my garage! I go to take for a drive around the block and I notice that my rear view mirror is gone. They just broke it off, half of it is still chillen on my windshield. I had a radar detector and the chord was wrapped around the rear view and I guess they were too lazy to unwrap it so they broke it off. I'm kinda glad I left my door unlocked that day for some strange reason, or else they might have actually done some damage.

I saw a lock that you tap into your break lines that allows you to lock all four wheels making it impossible to drive and if they tampered with it to release the breaks they would end up loosing break fluid and end up driving with no breaks. Does anyone know where you can get one of these. I saw it in a magazine a few years ago and don't know where to get one now.

The day that it happened... I managed to get a Courtesy car... So that was fine.
1 day and half later...
I woke up at about 9 to drop someone off..
Came back home... Go back to the car at 12noon..
(parked in the same Culdisac as my truck was)
And someone had smashed into the back of my Courtesy car now .. *hit and run* soo I had to spend another morning on the phone with insurance.
Im never bringing any vehicle down there again.
im just going to walk for now on..
I wish i would have caught those idiots who tried the other night.. I would have loved to shoot both of them. A few month's back I had to chase 3 kids up the road with my Truck CLub because one of them tried to bend my antenna as i looked out the window.. Caught one of them.. called the cops..
By the way... After the attempt on my truck.. I tried turning my key in the ignition.. and it would turn but It wouldnt start.. just Every warning light came on. So i got it towed. But anyways.. The repair shop phoned asking if I had installed any kind of kill switch on it.. And i havent ... Does anyone know what that could be ?

I use to have a 82 lebaron convertible painted 97 chrysler hunter green (like the minivans)and some really cool rims...mainly because that's all you could do with the car...no power d@mn bitsumishi 2.6 4banger! I also managed to take out the back seat and put a lot of stereo stuff in it's place..
well, one day at work (busy grocery store)some guy decided to cut a 16" slit into the side...tried to steal my subs and amp but only got away with my school backpack...good thing i bolt all of that stuff directly to the car!
oh, the cops caught him two days later when he tried to break in my friends rustang convertible at work.

Yes, they are, too bad I can't get the double-action ones, those are only sold to LEOs, but damn are they nice. It is SOO easy to take apart and clean...things are built to perfection and with the highest quality control....it can't get much better than that H&K.

About 5 years ago I had some A$$hole break into my 91' Dak. I happened to have the alarm in valet that night because it was windy and the trees blowing by the motion sensor kept setting off the alarm. Well, the moron that broke into my truck didn't know that, so he reaches up under my dash and pulled out handfuls of wires. I had a nice stereo he was after (Orion HCCA amps, etc). It looked like they carved the deck out of my dash with a chainsaw. I was pissed about the missing audio equipment, but was even worse is when I went to try and start it. No dash lights, no starter, nothing happened. The only thing still working was my dome light. It took me 6 hours and my factory manual to reconnect all the wires that were ripped out. That was just to get it running and all the dash lights working. The alarm was shot. It somehow got fried. It took me a couple of days to rewire relays to get the doorlocks to work.
Now I have cheap crap for a stereo. I save the nice audio for my home. I worked installing alarms/car stereos when I was in college. The best advice I can give is: If you have a nice stereo, DON'T ADVERTISE IT by driving around with it turned up or show it to people you don't know. Someone will want it more than you. If you feel the need to spend thousands on your car stereo, have a GOOD INSURANCE POLICY. If they want it bad enough, they will get it. Doesn't matter what alarm you have.
I installed an nice security system in a Porche 911 Turbo. It included a line lock for the brakes. All the owner had to do was push his brake pedal and turn the key on the line lock to lock the brakes for all 4 wheels. Well, he came in a couple months later and told us his car was stolen. Apparantly they winched it onto a flat bed tow truck by the skid marks on the ground from where it was parked.

Back in the early 90's I had someone break into my 86toyota lowrider and try to steal my stereo. Unfortunetly they didn't get to far, because under the dash I had installed razor blades. The cops caught him in emergency the same night.

Guys, I do not reccomend doing that no matter how nice it may sound to cut a worthless excuse for a human being with rusted razor blades, I bet you'll get sued, lol.
Orion HCCA, damn, nice stuff, but I totally agree. It mostly happens to people who have JL and Team RF stickers all over their vehicle. Also, turn off your stereo when you get near your house, most people who have jacked your sh!t have been watching you and have seen it, it's not just a random thing. If you go to a HighSchool AND a college, DO NOT turn it up! If you are and it isn't stolen, not to worry, your Pyle and Pyramid is safe.
Bolt everything down with odd kinds of bolts (security etc). I have seen so many people buy $2000 worth of equipment, but not even something such as a 5 dollar flashing LED and 10 dollar DEI stickers on their windows. DO security beore audio, please!

I once heard a good story from a fellow law enforcement student. He told me of a man who lived in his neighborhood that owned a few nice cars. He was fed up with them getting stolen, so he decides to do something about it. he got all of the column, wheel, airbag locks, alarms, bells and whistles for his 99 Camaro SS. he actually drilled into the chassis with 3/4" grade 8 bolts and bolted eye bolts into the holes, one on each side of the car. he then drilled into his driveway and did something similar to that. every night, he would spend 5 minutes locking up his car and locking it to the driveway. one morning he wakes up and looks outside. his car is completly turned around 180 degrees. the car is on blocks with the wheels and tires stuffed under the car. the windows are down and the t-tops off, but still in the car. the hood is up and the hatch is open. nothing was taken...but under the wiper blade is a note that says "when we want it, we'll take it..."
Just a thought.

Lots of people make Brake Locks(also called Line Locks or roll control)Try Summit.I also have an H&K USP 9MM(plus a bunch of other neat stuff).Sweet gun, but I would never even consider shooting someone or even at them for trying to steal my vehicle. Don't get me wrong,I'm the biggest gun-nut and right-wing radical extreamist there is, but I have no desire to get myself sued into the poorhouse over a stolen vehicle.That's what insurance is for! Just make sure that your insurance company knows exactly what mods you have on your vehicle(performance,audio,etc.), and make an effort at some kind of security! If you can't afford to insure it,you shouldn't own it!
Don't get me wrong,I hate the whole lawyer/insurance/judicial empire as much,if not more, that anyone,but it's just a reality of modern life!
If you choose to bust a cap into some juvinile delinquite's backside, you will probably not get prosecuted if you play your cards right(remember the seven words:"I felt my life was in danger"), but you will most definately get sued by him or his family and they WILL WIN and wind up owning everything you own or ever will own.It's just not worth it!

FastRT6Dakota, that is an insane story about that one guy, but I think that's more of harassment in that case and it's amazing how fukt up some people are..
Dave is right though, about the seven words, and you WILL get sued and they will win, I've read about this soo many times and amkes me soo angry when those oxigen wasting-POSs and their families do that..
Stick to insurance, and take it up the @$$..I guess it's the only thing you can do. They'll get what they deserve eventually..

"My father dies in a MVA hitting a bus head on. After the accident the bus stops and a lady trips and hurts herself falling off the bus. For some lame reason she gets to sue my father's estate and may end up getting more money out of it than I do. My father dies and she trips getting off a bus and as result she will be financially rewarded?? And to make matter worse in order to pay her the estate may need to bankrupt itself selling the house off which my father left to me in order to pay out her " INJURY" . What a crappy world this is sometimes. I have to sit and wait for the statute of limitations to run out before they can even start sorting out all the matters."

Here locally, a firefighter caught two teenagers trying to steal the motor off his bass boat, he shot them as they were running away.Killed one and really messed up the other one.The D.A. declined to prosecute, but he was eventually sued my both sets of the two kids' parents.Poor slob lost everything;house,cars,property,boat,even the dog(champion pure-bred pointer=anything of value)! Plus, he has a multi-million settlement against him and his family and all his future earnings and his estate when he dies.
Personally I don't feel a bit sorry for him! You don't shoot unarmed people in the back when they are running AWAY from you down a public street.Stealing an outboard motor does not constitute an imminent threat to your life.They should have locked him up.Stupid $hit like this gives all us responsible gun owners a bad name.

Take a lesson from that firefighter. Turn them around first before you shoot them. Don't shoot them in the back, it looks bad ;-)
If it wasn't for all the lawyers out there and sue happy people, criminals might actual be scared of commiting a crime. Especially if they restored the defense of property law. If it was legal to use deadly force on someone trying to steal your car, how many people do you think would be willing to steal it? Remember this when you vote next time......

That is sad! My Friend has a Camaro broken into 3 miles down the street... the 600.00 dollar cd player was taken...

What lawsuit would have never happened where i'm from... The people here believe in justice, selfdiscipline and order...
In Kentucky, they recently re-entacted a law that says that you can defend your property with force if necessary.. while i'm not sure i would have shot them in the back.. maybe the back of the leg.. they probably wouldn't have allowed the suit since it would be kind of the law... depending on how the law was written and how it is interpreted.. but yeah.. shooting in the back isn't a good idea.. But if they wouldn't have been stealing, they wouldn't have gotten shot.. That is a bad case and wouldn't have stood where i'm from...
IMO, Just firing the gun at them without hitting them would have taught them a lesson.. but ya never know..

Well Yesterday ... *1 week since i brought it into the bodyshop* I finally got to turn in the courtesy car and get my truck back! the door looked good(re painted, Hole fixed).. but I am going to get them to fix the placement of the new handle.. because its not flush with the door.. there is a little gap.. But besides that everything else is back to normal.
Now... to look for an Imobilizer. Has anyone heard of an alarm that Pages you when the alarm is activated ? ? So that way i can run out and catch the idiots and beat them half to death, No matter where i am.

Law Enforcement prefers you not to use those types of alarms, but yes, there is a such thing, made by a number of different companies.
Killing a person, and from behind, is a bit exreme, but I am not in the slightest bit sympathetic towards those two kids.
It's not always the criminal courts that'll get ya, but them damn civil ones -- just ask O.J.!
Insurance is STILL anyone's best option.

Really ? how come law enforcement does not prefer that you use an alarm that pages you ? I think out off all the alarms that are *vocal* and dont have a kill switch.. I think an alarm that atleast pages you is the best idea.. People ignore alarms.. Atleast I can be notified and care about it..

Sorry... a little of the topic, but your help is needed!!
Ok people, here's the deal............
I have these two guys who think it's funny to "screw" with everyones vehicals. They go any where from dumping "sh!t" into the gas tank, such as: used oil, anti~freeze, ball bearings...ect, to throwing eggs and stealing.
Now I know I should just ignore it, be better then them, and not bring my self to there level... But it's pay back time. I have a few great ideas, but I'm looking for any that you may have. ANYTHING... I don't want personal damage, just want them to know what happens to people who fu(k with everyone!!

Some Midget actually did steal my Dak 98 5.2l 5sp RC from my locked parking garage. They drove it to a garage stripped everything out of it and went cruising the town in it. It was involved in a high speed chase (they lost the cops I feel a little guilty pride about that) and it was recovered two days later. I swear I almost didn't want it back. I was just fuming! So i decided to go the Stripper route they got the CD player and about 13 CD's which weren't covered. so I took out the radio altogether put in a factory delete plate. Got a 4 prong club for the steering wheel (called D-vice). This summer Killswitch. Not going to happen again. Plus now it's got that 69 Road Runner feel. What about tunes? I just listen to that V-8 symphony haven't gotten bored of it yet and I've been radio free for 8 months.

Best alarm system I ever invested in was a motion sensor flood lamp. Couple that with apit bull that goes nuts when the light goes on and my Para-Ordnance .40 cal with laser sight does wonders.. After an attempted break-in on my Dak and letting the dog out with a laser beam on guys chest i guess word got out.. Since then no problems..

Yes I had the truck all done up again and I am getting over the feelings of frustration and anger. My local Dealer happened to be a prefered dealer of my insurance company. I'm still not sure who that really benefits, the dealership or the insurrance company. 8-\
