Subject: Larger Cam .... IP: Logged
Message: Why dont more people run larger cams? It seems to me that it is a pretty effective way of getting lots (35+) of hp out of fairly little money. What other mods are required or recommended? Im looking at the Magnum R/T Cam from Mopar.

Message: I've heard that Mopar R/T cams are just about worthless. I would look for something bigger, if your going to go threw all that work.
I might just hold off on installing my M1 and buy me a cam to install at the same time.

Message: I've read about the bigger cam giving 35HP now you can't add that to whatever HP you have currently, right, cuz your stock cam already adds say 10-15HP maybe to the overall HP. Well when you take out that cam and your putting in a new cam that adds 35 don't you have to subtract the HP your losing when you take out the old cam? Just a thought.

Message: They claim that it adds 46 Hp , and if I recall correctly 51 lb/ft in torque. I may be reading something wrong but to me it sounds like that is 46 hp and 51 lb/ft over stock.

Anyone have one installed? Also, what do they mean by:
**Emissions exempt in California, Massachusetts and New York only.

Message: Brian - The 46 HP claim includes the cam, performance air filter (like FIPK) and performance controller.
Does anyone have a good estimate for the labor only of a cam installation by a good shop or Dealer?

Message: Thats not how I read it. To me they are saying that if you have a performance intake and a performance chip then you will see an increase of 46 HP, give or take, from the cam itself PLUS the increase from the intake and chip. The cam is dependent on those mods to be able to function to is highest capabilities. You can install the cam without those other mods, but the increase will not be as great.
Example: If you install headers without having a good exhaust then the improvements will not be as great as with the exhaust. The headers can only get rid of as much gases as the exhaust will allow.
Sorry if I soudn a little harsh. Having a bad day at work. Its easier to yell at someone other than my boss.
Thanks for all the help

If your interpretation is true, its a heck of a mod.

Message: If you guys are going to change cam's stay away form the mopar cam. Hotrod magazine did a r/t build up with mopar part's. They did one mod at a time and then they drove it and dyno'd it later, the mopar cam LOST 10HP. Sorry I can't provide issue number or month, it's no longer at the break table at work.

Message: www.krcperformance.com has a few different cams and other mods. They also give you a general idea of what gains you get and what is required to get certain numbers.

Message: I went to krcperformance and read all the options in cams that they had and it was a little hard to decide which cam to get...I'm thinking maybe the KRC206 or the KRC210. I'm leaning more towards the 206 cuz that you don't have to have many mods as the 210. I have a '01 R/T and I already have catback exhaust, 52mm TB, Airaid Intake, JBA wires and if Im changing the cam I'm gonna put on some 1.6 rollers. Anything else I need to add when getting this cam?

Message: I would do heads and intake also, but they are a lot more expensive. The only other thing would be to do a custom flash on your computer.
