Subject: Hayden or flex-a-lite electric fan?
IP: Logged

Message:
I can't decide, should I go with a Hayden 3710 electric fan or a Flex-a-lite 150 electric fan. The coolant over-flow tank is mounted on the fan shroud so I want to keep that. I also have the ASP underdrive pulleys with the alternator pulley, which causes the trucks charge to get low at stop lights. From previous posts I've heard that the only time when the fan goes on is at a stop light on a hot day, will this make my truck die at lights? Should I get a bigger alternator? I'm open for any suggestions, thanks.

I'm biased towards the Hayden fan as I haven't had any experience with the Flex-a-lite.

I am very happy with the fan's performance. As for the fan shroud, you can keep the shroud on after installation of the fan. Just protect your fan wires accordingly.

I'm not sure how often or exactly when my fan comes on (I'm hooking up a light shortly to be able to tell), but if you're concerned with low charging at a light, just toss your tranny into neutral and keep the rpm's up a little. Your Dak shouldn't stall at the lights if you don't do this though. You can always get a larger output alternator, but they don't come cheaply.
