I have a 2002 RT, what NOS systems are recommended for the 5.9, about how much do they cost, and what does NOS do to engine life?

Nitrous Express is what most people on the RTML are running. By the way, NOS is a brand (Nitrous Oxide System I think). I have the Nitrous Express system on my '01 R/T and love it. Put the 100 shot on it and dropped a little over a second off of my 1/4 mile et. The basic system will run you around $500 but you would be better off with the Gen-X upgrade (fuel pressure safety switch, blow down tube, pressure guage, etc.) for safety, about another $225.

Timing retard, better fuel, ignition upgrade (stock coil won't handle that...don't care what they say as we proved this at the track on an '01 R/T with two different coils). That's for the basics.

i have a NITROUS OXIDE SYSTEMS N2O System in my truck (yes, the holley brand, NOS, not NAWWWSSS.
has never run better...run a 14.59 with a 100shot and no timing taken out. when used properly, n20 has no adverse effects on the engine. i should have timing taken out, but ill worry about that in the summer. email me, before i went on the bottle i researched the balls out of the subject, have some VERY good links regarding safe n2o usage.

yea...im on dragtruk, and yea, i do my homework..i should be able to run with you 12 second animals in 4 months. until then ill be happy with a 14.5. ive only taken 10 trips down the track, only 3 of those on spray, with hardly any tuning. i have far from perfected my racing technique, and i raced with 3/4 tank of gas, and all of my subs/amp/seats/spare tire/etc etc. im not making excuses, but jesus christ, you all started out slow. *sniffle sniffle* please don't make fun of me, *sniffle cry sniffle*

Not making fun-- just curious on the times... You need to make sure you have a good ignition, plugs, exhaust/headers/intake, etc... to help the engine breath-- Running juice on a semi-stock setup might drop a second or more off your times, but it's a little harder on the motor-- get those mods done, and get into the 12s!!! I hope to see an 11.99 or better by June.

afi360,

i wasnt making fun.... or at least not too much ;-)

but i think part of your problem is the nos kit that you have. Most of us have the nitrous express kit which is better tuned and more powerful than the nos

also, you are right... practice makes intense... i mean perfect. I have only done a few 1/4 mile runs with all close to the same results but my first time racing was at the 1/8th track. My first run was a 10.04. I shot a 75 shot at about halfway down the track because i was scared of what it might do. I havent raced that much (probably 6 seperate trips to the track) but got better each time.... went from a 10.04 to a 10.01 to a 9.8 to a 9.5... switched to a 100 shot (lost a lot of traction) got a 9.2 to a 8.95 to a 8.82.

good luck with your truck this spring! i hope mine just sticks in the 13s with the turbo. From what i can tell it feels just as strong as the 100 shot but i get a really bad lag around 3500-4300 rpms because i am running out of fuel. Just some things that i need to work on.

see ya

heh, yea, taking sh!t from you guys is all part of the game. a 14.5 is not that huge of an accomplishment, and with a few more better decisions, i would have gone with nx. i started out by getting a zex kit for $500 from a local 'speedshop'. that didnt work right, so he got me the nos, as holley is the only 'performance brand' he works with. so im stuck with it. oh well, it works. i finally got the msd 6a, and the timing retard, but my stock computer does not get along with the timing box..so i have some more tweaking to do on that. in april/early may i hope to be hitting 12.5 on spray, 13.4 on motor. we shall see.

if you run nitrous, you need to run 900 psi, thats what the kit is designed for, not 600 700, your rich then. you should look into a progressive box for your system. it will bring it up to max as you go. so you dont spin your wheels. you can adjust it for your traction. 30-50 hp for like 2 seconds then it will bring the noise. in order to do it rite you need the basic kit, and the bottle warmer kit with the blow off tube. and if your sick like me i got the eletronic tps and fuel safety switch, it runs the system off the tps voltage and not micro switch, and fuel safety switch prevents system from running without proper fuel psi. dont forget colder plugs, watch out for the timing. you need to get a after marker msd system to pull out some timing and get better spark to the plug. a almost for you guys with aftermarket computers and advanced timing. i think thats it. if you see 500$ for a system forget it expect to spent 1000-1500$ for a system to be safe and fast. dont forget the ignition.

Intense-- you running slicks??? If not, get a set of 26x10.5s and run the 75 at WOT off the line... After a few runs the way you have it now-- pull a few plugs and check them... If any are white-- you are WAY too lean... bump up the fuel jet. If you are brown/rust color-- you are rich, and in the 'green' for throttle up. Keeping fuel in the fire makes it all work, and work safely. Up to a 100 shot, and 1 step colder plugs, no need to pull any timing. I am running a cold 150 (probably a 125 shot with the low bottle pressure) with no timing pulled-- plugs look great. I am going to drop back to a 125 shot, and check again-- if all goes well I'll leave it-- if not, I'll pull 2 degrees with an MSD-digital 6.

75 on a good 3.9L off the line-- WOOHOO. You'll be running-- like a V8! hehe... Should see a 14.9x pass out of that. The 10.0x run in the 1/8th would be a 9.95 or better if you hit it off the line.

Slicks+N20= good times.

lol, thats what i use to do sam!

i used the 75 shot off the line and got a 9.5 best 1/8th. I had slicks, but the open diff limited my traction abilities.... otherwords i had non. I was white smoking the tires for about 100 ft... errr.. tire. The 100 shot i let off around the 60ft mark and had the same traction issues as the 75 off the line. I was running 26/11.50/15 slicks. I was running just a little rich... i had it dynoed and found out how it was running... but the dyno results were no god because they hooked it up wrong and had the crank degree set wrong...

... it said i had 199 wrhp!!! i was like sure... whatever! i decided that i wasnt going to go there again. Also, sam, i dont have the nitrous anymore... having more fun with my turbo. I feel 13s coming with it.
