Subject: does a Jet chip make a big difference? IP: Logged
Message: I have a K&N Gen2 intake and a custom Borla exhaust on my 2000 Dakota 5.9 and just wanted to know if a stage2 jet chip would be worth the cost.
thanks for any input

jet chip Choose dyno graphs and the last 2 of three are with and without the Jet.

Message: That's only one comparison. Each engine responds slightly different to the "Chips". For the 5.2/5.9L, they're not the best at all (Jet)...for the 3.9L, they work very well...and mixed opinions on the 4.7L.

Message: Hows this for a compromise. They are spotty at best and have little or no gain on the 5.2/5.9.

Message: I haven't noticed a whole hell of a lot, if anything at all! Stage 1 though, but even a stage 1 makes a big difference on other vehicles.
check opions on other options!

Message: Ed,
Why don't you get the Mopar PCM? If you want something that's actually gonna work, then that's what you need.

Message: I was looking into the Mopar SBEC/PCM but they don't make one for my truck, unless a 4x2 PCM would work in a 4x4.
Considering the fact that there is such a wide variety of opinions on the jet chip, I have decided against it. I guess I'll just get a throttle body instead. Anyone have good or bad things to say about Magnum Performance? (www.fastdodge.com)

Message: The price from magnum performance is way to high. Look at flowmetrics or holley.

Message: I bought a Jet Stage II from a guy on here for $50...I thought it made my 5.2 quicker..so I just took it off so that I could get my emissions test and I really notice a drop in power without it. I test tomorrow and cannot wait to put it back on. So, it did make a good difference on my 98 5.2 (for me).

Message: Bernard, or anyone else who has info. I have a 1990 Dak. 3.9L V6, Edlb.headers, K&N cold intake, no cat, flowmaster dual exh., in the next 2 days, a new Oxy sensor, and total Jacobs ign. I want a Jet chip, only a Stage I due to terrible MPG and dont want to pay for higher octane fuel, and I know they make em. Has anyone tried them? Bernard says thay are good on the 3.9Ls but is that for Pre mags or what? Thanks

Message: It is all relevant to the mods you have on your engine. If all you have is increased air flow I.E. cold air intake, cat-back, or headers, then the Jet stage 2 chip is designed to work with those components. On the other hand, if you have more mods, I.E. camshatf, rocker arms, intake manifiold, etc. the website specifically says not to use the chip, to call their tech people directly and they will reprogram a custom chip for you.

Message: My 4.7 seemed to learn and compensate for the jet II I had. I ended up putting it on ebay rather than going through the hassle of taking it out every few k miles to get the performance back... but right off the bat it feld DAMN good....

Message: I bracket raced at Sunshine dragstrip on Friday nights in St.Pete (1/8) and Desoto on Saturdays (1/4). After installing a jet chip on my 99 RT and putting 100 miles on it during the week to break it in, at both dragstrips I saw absolutely no loss or gain. My 60 foot times,330 foot,1/8mi,1000 footand1/4 mi. times were identical to the week before as were trap speeds. It did absolutely nothing whatsoever. They are a waste of money. Sometimes you can make a modification and you think you can feel the difference but at the track it's the same as it was before. Some people claim they work and for them maybe it did. I have a feeling though they just believe it does and don't have the dragstrip runs to back it up.

Message: Well my truck had a K&N air filter, dual exhaust flowmaster converter and muffler and the jet stage 2 chip. For as big and heavy as it is it was very quick. 5.2L 4x4 CC. I drove other dakotas and they were way slower. They'd do about a 10-15ft burnout through first and thats it. My truck will spin through first and second and bark 3rd. It will also give a mustang GT a bit of a suprise. Since then I have put headers, straight pipes, and a home made true CAI. It's faster but I've been adding more stereo so it's been getting heavier also. Last time I put it on the scales it was at 5700 lbs and would still stay within a fender of a GT. By january I'll have some 1/4 times with and without the nitrous.
