IP: Logged

Message:
Does anyone know how to eliminate the annoying Speed limiter on Dakota's with the 4.7? What? How? Where to find? How much? (dont really care too much about price, just want to go FASTER!) I know I shouldn't be exceeding the speed limit, but sometimes I'm in a hurry (on the way to the track of course)
Thanks!!!!!!!

They may not be available yet (Mopar Performance PCM). A custom flash of your current one would be ~$500.

My dakota has no problem reaching speeds over 100. It is completely stock with 200 miles on it. I slowly took it to about 102 just to see if it stopped at 98. It didn't even hesitate.

Don't feel too bad. My truck shuts down at 98.

It's sad when a 13 year old rice burner truck with a 4 banger that had 195,000 miles on was running at 103 the day it died, and my new V-8 Dakota shuts down at 98.

btw - It wasn't the speed that killed the engine, it was a leaking radiator hose and a nonworking temp sensor.

Well gentleman,I don't know that it is a real bad thing to shut down at 95,we don't need to go that fast on the streets.{Only my opinion}Yes I did do that on I-75,but that was wrong!

Bob, maybe they were practicing for the autobahn? There is this section on A6 running southwest from Frankfurt to Kaiserslautern where it is unrestricted, down hill and two lanes. I was with a friend and we were going a hair over 130mph in an American spec BMW 328IS and wouldn't you know it, couldn't go any faster?

I wouldn't run that fast for any duration in non-speed rated light truck tires though.

I'm pretty sure it is due to the the rear end. I think the 3.55 cuts @ 95-98 and the others I'm not sure. I think the 3.92 is higher.

I was taling with my dealer on this issue and he's seen this many times.

The 5-Speeds have a higher limit and (some) don't have the rev limiter. The automatics are at a slight disadvantage on this. (That's what I was told...take it for what it's worth.)

I think it has to do with the tire package you get from the factory. My buddy has a 2000 ec dak and his truck shuts down around 95 and he thinks its because of the tire option he got.I have a 2000 rc 4x4 dak and it shuts down around 110 and it has 31x10.50's on it.

There is no big deal the motor works fine ,the tach and the speedometer just stop moving and you quit gaining speed.I tried it downhill just to make sure and it is like you just go into a holding pattern. No strange noises other than your pants filling up when you think you see a cop,or was that a bump ahead sign!!!

Jet has a stage II chip for the 2000-01 dakotas, you'll end up with the needle stuck at 120 but probably go a lot faster that the needle. I got mine up to 115-117 or so roughly on a flat land. Gonna buy the chip next week. also you'll need to run 92 or better octane
