Subject: TB and the 4.7l IP: Logged
Message: Hey Bernd had said in an earlier thread that the Throttle body on the 2000 4.7 had a 65mm and the 2001 had a 67mm, when did these changes kick in, was it the model year or the physical, and how can I check mine? Also on the Dyno that Bernd posted it showed the RPM dropping after about 4500, what is the redline on these 4.7s?

Message: If you mean Power dropping off at 4500, yes,,,if not sooner. My 4.7 winds up pretty fast,,but POWER starts dropping after about 3Krpm.

Message: ZenDak - Power starts dropping after 3k? That's where the power actually hits hardest isn't it? It's hard for me to remember what the stock power band really fealt like, but I remember it not dropping until 5k or so.

Message: Mine pulls past 3k easily. And with the new intake it really makes some music now between 2500 to 3500, but what is the redline? Also how do you tell the difference between the 65mm and the 67mm?

Message: I have a 2000 with the 65mm. I feel most of my power kick in around 3000rpms and drops off around 5000rpms. Redline is around 6000rpms I believe. Third gear is a kick.

Message: The size is also stamped directly onto the throttle blade.... but you have to have the TB off the engine to see it. (I know.... not much help - huh)
Stock rev-limiter is at 6000 rpm. That means that redline must be 5999? hehehe

Message: Hey Skeletor what's an SMB Powerstack?
I ported my own. I got luck and got some good increases in performance. Truth be known I didn't really know what I was doing, I just knew to stay away from the portion of the tb that interfaced with the valve, opened it up real good, ground down the screws and thined the shaft. Just be prepared to buy a new TB if you mess it up.

Message: Oh just in case anyone wants the billet TB for your 4.7l Bruce at Flowmaster does have one for you, he sent me a picture, and the price is...
Here is his letter.
"My advertising is pretty weak if not non existent... We introduced the 4.7
line of TBs in November! Weve got 68mm, 70mm and 72mm 4.7TBs. They require
modifications to your air intake system (a high strength reinforced silicone
coupling is available from F&B to go from 3.5" to 4" TB inlet dia) Its an
incredibly easy installation! I recommend the 68mm TB for grand Cherokees
and off road mildly modded vehicles. The 70mm works great on lighter
vehicles like the Dakotas and will accommodate more mods as they become
available. The 72mm is for all out motors with fairly major mods including
computer re-programming!
The list price is $410.00, but we meet our distributors prices for factory
direct sales. I think the lowest distributor price now is $400.00 but I'm
not positive! I attached a picture of the 4.7 TB to this email
Thanks!

That was bone stock on a nice warm/humid day. 197 ponies, and 267 ft/lb tq. With intake and exhaust,,not sure. G-tech be say'n low 15's. Aint hang'n w/no turbo'd 4.7's yet!
I'm taking her back to Colvin Automotive here in Austin next day off,,waiting for nice cool day, and get some new numbers.
