Check out the new NEON. It LOOKS lie the Subie WRX but is 100% American made. (to rival the turbocharged Dodges of the past.) I have been told that the NEON head has been tested on a flowbench and flows better than many $5,000 heads on exotic cars.

I cant believe all that for under 20,000$
It even looks good, and made in the USA. I've owned a few Neons, and have raced them, pretty much know them inside and out, and I'll be the first to say they've got their problems, and I swore I'd never own one again, but DAMN! thats a hot car.
If its halfway reliable, I'm gonna get one.
This is gonna give the imports one helluva run for their money. Bruce, how did you find out about this?

hell if a neon is pushing 200 ponies stock, a
stock dakota should be pulling at least 350+
Hopefully their gonna throw in the 5.7's soon, I

They need to do a re-design of the engine bay on the Neon and tummy-tuck a 3.0L small block under the hood. I know it will fit. There is a guy here in town that did so. He had to push the entire firewall and dash back I believe 4 inches and loose some back seat room, but it was worth it.

Forget the 3.0L V-6 idea. The 3.0L is a Mitsubushi motor and a piece of crap at that. I wouldn't want a Mitsu motor in my Neon. Besides, being a turbo it would be a lot easier to make it go faster. Up the boost!

I agree that I would go with the turbo 4cyl. in the neon. and I choose not to support the rice makers. But I have to give credit where credit is due. The 3.0 litre Mitsu motor has proven to be a respectable engine. Torquie, free revving, and reliable. I even know of one with over 200k that is still running great.

Lets see if that Glorified sewing machine motor in youre R/T goes 200,000+miles.
You better hope that neon goes a long time, cause when it comes time to sell or trade, youll be lucky to get enough $ for a movie, and dinner at the waffle house

Nope, no head gasket problems yet.
200,000 miles? Not sure what kind of benchmark that mileage is supposed to prove, but I have almost 100,000. Does that count?
The 2.0L seems pretty durable to me and I get 40 mpg to boot. The car also has been around quite a few autocross tracks and at the SDAC-10 Michigan International Speedway event.
I'm not interesting in selling the car, so I guess that I will have to buy my own dinner at the Waffle House. Do people actually eat there? Yuk.
Thanks for kind sentiments Chris W. Nice to see how the Dodge owners stick together. Remember, for every 2 sewing machines that Dodge sells, it allows them to also sell 1 gas guzzling truck. It's called CAFE.

Gary F. consider youreself blessed to not have probs with the heads at that mileage. I'm very bitter towards the neon cause of the problems weve encountered with them on and off the track.
My personal experience with the car has been less than favorable. Owned 2, raced a 2.0 twin cammer, Relatives owned a few, and all had major probs out of 'em.
What really steamed me was how the dealer didn't do a thing to help me when my head gaskets went at around 38,000K. Chrysler Corp. was no help either. a lot of Dodge owners seem to be having probs with the dealers. When Dak quits one day, I have to seriously wonder if i'm gonna get another D.C. product. {you are right about the CAFE}.
As far as Dodge owners sticking together? Were just a bunch of folks who drive the same manufacturer. If I get a Ford or whatever tomorrow it won't chance ya'lls lifes one little bit.
W.H. not too bad. You oughta try the patty melts. MMMMMMM!!

Actually, the 3.0L small block my friend Loki installed wasnt a ricer block. It was a custom made American motor by ford. The mileage for the car sucks ass though, but its a fast mother. He's beat quite a few unbelievable cars, including the local viper.

Chris W. My Neon must have been built in the middle of the week or something. It has been dead reliable, no squeeks or rattles and drives like day 1. Probably my only gripe is that because of the 5th gear ratio (.81) it runs at a fairly high rpm on the highway.
I wonder if the problem Neons were the ones built in Mexico? Mine was built in Belvidere, IL.
The only warranty repair was a tail light that let water in. I would buy another one, and might trade mine in on this new SRT-4 should it really make it to the showroom.

Gary F. I think you are right about the one made in Mexico having the probs. I've learned that the they tried to fix the head gasket problem with shims of some sort.
My first neon ran like a scalded dog but was loud and crude. but fast! - too bad it caught fire!-But the brakes only went 17,000 miles.
My second neon{ Mexican built} was the true problem child. funny thing though, the brakes held out till I got rid of the car. about 38,000miles. Go figure.
I'm glad youre having good luck with youre Neon, Id never wish ill will on anyone just to prove a point about a car.

Thanks Bruce. I'm still wondering why Dodge is only making 5000 of these. I mean it doesn't seem like it would be too hard to build. A 200hp 4 banger isn't too hard to accomplish with a turbo.
IMO, what is imppresive is 200 or more HP out of a normally aspirated engine. Acura's RSX, and Hondas S2000 both have 100 HP or better per ltr of displacement. now thats imppresive!
Still a very good worthwhile effort from Dodge. I cant wait till one of the major auto rags gets hold of one for a test!!
