Alright, heres the deal. I bought a used 2000 4.7 RC 5speed with LSD. The guy had the original window sticker and it said 3.55 gears. At the time I didnt know too much about daks. The things drives very jerky and I suspect it might be have 3.92 gears. I have heard about window stickers that say 3.55 even though they have 3.92s because I believe there is no price difference. Is there an easy way to find out what gears I have - perhaps some sort of RPM & speed observation?

There is a price difference of $40. msrp. look in your glove box for the sticker that shows you what you have in the truck.

The 4.7+5 speed combo provides a pretty good amount of punch, even w/ the 3.55

josh, that is what happened to me. my purchase sticker and sticker in the glove box both stated a 3.55 gear ratio, but i recently went and had some 4.10 gears installed and i counted my old ring and pinion teeth just for the hell of it and this is what i got: ring/39 teeth pinion/10 teeth. this makes it a 3.90 ratio. so i suggest just pop the rearend cover and count em' up.
good luck.

or instead of draining the fluid, look at the tag on one of the bolts on the diff cover. it will tell you what ratio was put in.

Another way is to raise the rear end up, turn the wheel until the vale stem is at 12 o'clock, spin either the drive shaft or the wheel which ever is easier. If the drive shaft turns 3 1/2 times per wheel rotation you most likely have 3.55's. If the drive shaft turns almost 4 times you have 3.92's.

yes Clevite, that is the best and easiest way to determine gear ratio, i'm surprised someone didnt come up with that earlier.
